scilly isle\'s re fuel ?

Thinking of mooching over to St Mary's. Can we fuel up there yet or is still a small bowser as it suggests in the west country guide.

We were there two years ago. As far as I know, you can still refuel in St Marys, subject to tide and when the ferry boats arrival. You will need to make arangements with the HM. But it's expencive. I dont know how much.

My preffered method, is, refuel in Newlyn. Cheap fuel from a tanker, theres always at least one around, mostly more. Only about 35 miles to Scillies then. Not sure of your range, but I also carry a 45 gallon oil drum in the lazerette. Great for extended cruising, or just missing out places that are expencive, or to much messing about.

Anyway, we refueled. Newlyn plus the oil drum, giving us enough fuel to bob round the Scillies a bit and still have enough to reach Falmouth on the way back. Course, could have returned to Newlyn if fuel was getting short.

So, from jersey. I''m thinking, you have a big'ish boat. Far better to refuel. Falmouth, fuel barge. Else Newlyn tankers. Do the sums, Newlyn cheaper. Would think, getting big amouts of fuel from St Marys, difficult. Much better to refuel as I said.

Bowser on the Quay.....always around for the St Mary's Boatmans Association in the Summer Season. Extra cost due to shipping from Mainland
