I’m writing a letter for The Wooden Boat Forum. Out of respect to our host, Classic Boat, I have not included a link, since I also administer the forum. The link is available upon request.

In the early 1950s, I saw a schooner on the Thames heading towards the Estuary (seen from Erith). She was at least a “four master” and may have been a five. I was quite young at the time so please bare with me on the exact details. She was under full sail. She may have been using her auxiliary engine assuming she even had one. Colour of her sails was rust red. At the time, I was told she was one of the Last of the London - Ceylon tea traders.

I realize my details are at best, sketchy, but if anyone, with more knowledge of these ships than I, can offer some details of what she may have been or suggest a website with possible information I’d appreciate your reply. I have made a number of Google searches, but have found nothing for that time period and geographic location.
