Schengen - who she?

You're supposed to live a crew manifest with the immigration/port authorities on arrival. Some of them have spacial forms for this purpose.

Uptake is patchy to say the list - in some ports, some officials insist on it; elsewhere they can't be bothered

Citizens of countries that have signed up to the Shengen agreement can travel to other signatory countries without any formalities. The UK did not want to sign - some "Red Lines" bollocks. David Blucket wants to be in charge of our border control, and judging by the number of illegals roaming our streets he's doing a great job.

Yanita - thanks for the reply, I will be travelling via Roompot to Colinsplaat, is the marina the sort of place I can log in my crew manifest or do I have to go to an official port of entry?

You can download the required forms from the RYA website. As I understand it, you lodge the form with the harbourmaster at your first port of call who should fax them to the relevant authority. Last time I was in Breskens we were visited by immigration officers who explained that they were concentrating on all non Schengen visitors. They were very pleasant blokes and I'm always polite to people carrying guns anyway. It's not a huge problem to carry a list of crew members though.
You will need a different form in case you visit a Belgian port.

Marinas which are the obvious first ports of call have the form, to be completed in triplicate of course. Just a crew list and passport details.

You may have to ask for it, since its just extra work for the marinas. Do so though, I've heard Customs are currently doing spot checks on Brit yachts.

Re: Schengen - yep, a girlie thing

.. or rather.. it's a female-dog....

Anyway, on behalve of many Dutch sailors, welcome to Holland! Never knew we (Dutch) are this good in wasting valid tax money. Most be global-guv' issue. But thanks to the RYA site I am an 'expert' in non-Schengen visitors as well. Very sadly to see the non visiting friendly procedures given the fact that we do not need one while visiting other EU countries (and that's more than just the Schengen countries).

Hopefully this silly form doesn't scare off UK sailors.....

Rene.

I expect you can deposit your forms at the Roompot marina but I don't think you can at the lock.
Last time we went through there, we stayed overnight in the lock haven. There is/was a fairly basic fish & chip shop which did superb food, I think caught by local sports fishermen, and has great views. Nobody collected mooring fees either. Highly recomended.
Don't get too twitched about depositing your forms instantly, that doesnt seem to be the Dutch way.
