The Maids of Bute - Para Handy claimed to have "pented" them in one story

I was on the Waverly once when she went through the Kyles (largs marina 25th anniversary cruise) You could almost reach out and touch the marker buoys as we passed, the captain didn't ease off at all.

Should the waverley be \"black balled\"?

Is he just a mobo thug or is there a genuine manoeverability problem in restricted waters? He certainly gives no quarter. Maybe he should be showing his balls and hooting "D" like all the other wee Clyde paddlers we once were.

Re: Should the waverley be \"black balled\"?

He has a problem. The paddles are rigidly coupled together, can't be used for steering and if anything tend to maintain a straight course. There's obviously no propeller flow over the rudder, so turning forces are quite small, limiting the manoeuvrability (although she can't claim restricted manoeuvrabiliy because the limitation isn't due to the job she's doing).
