IPC's not posting pictures of other people's boats - they're getting other people to post picture of their boat.
IPC wants to find out what boats are out there - about the most 'common' ones they'll then do boat reviews etc... in the hope that people will buy the magazine because it's got a review/boat test of 'their' boat.

That's a bit cinical /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Not everything I do on here is for IPC, and while I tend to be the "voice "of Yachting Monhly, I'm not doing it in any official capacity.
I actually started that thread because there were a few threads that were started by forum members with new boats with photos, so rather than readers wives I thought readers boats was a bit more relevant /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
It had nout to do with market research, more to do with me being nosy/curious as to the boats out there. I've never heard of a Nic 26 for example, and what a pretty boat she is.
The variety has been great there are some lovely boats out there, I also think it's the nature of boat owners to look at other boats, on the way to the mooring, motoring down the river, or walking round a harbour etc. I for one am interested in seeing other boats, and in the office we have been surprised how popular it's been.

Key word in the original post was "mostly". So it needn't have been meant for you. Snooksy bit first and many others decided that they too were part of the dim majority. There's loads of bright people hereabouts, and most (there's that qualifier again) just watched and smiled. I've met lots of the bright people, and hope to meet more. But i think that fewer will be attracted to a pic show. Maybe in Blair's New Britain an "exchange of views" has come to mean just swapping and sharing pix? I hope not, and hence my rant. Yep the pix are nice, but they're a low stoop for scuttlebutt's headline thread. Imho

I have no problem with stickies (unless on my hull) as long as they don't take the whole first page.
However now there are so many pics it's a pity there is no way of indexing or sorting them, perhaps by boat type or something.

While I don't really care enough to get excited about whether or not the thread is stickied I do wonder why, if you want to copy MyBoatPix, you don't just go the whole hog and have a separate section for it?

There were a number of threads from Schmoo that were just a link to their website (which is against forum rules), I don't know the ins and outs of why they were banned, as I don't interfere with banning people (luckily for some /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )
The RB thread was inviting people to post photos of their own boats, their pride and joy, the object of their desire, not any boat they see passing (only one post out of the 100 or so replies did that and wasn't what the post was intended for), which is more or less how Schmoo's site works.
I've posted pics to Schmoo's site in an attempt to unite owner and photo, and it was also website of the month in YM. I think it's a great idea, I just wish someone would get some pics of mine /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
