Do scatter cushions have a place in yachting;if so how do I stop them migrateing to the leeward bunk.

Simple. The lady that put them there needs to put them in the v berth or a locker while at sea then scatter them again afterwards. You'd be surprised how happy most women are to do this if you don't moan about the cushions

Yes - how else do you support your 2 stroke outboard, when your on a drying mooring and you store the motor in the cabin???
With my trusty 4HP on top of them, they ain't going nowhere...

Now that's looking after one's engine, comfy cushions; mine gets plonked on top of an old fender to keep the head up higher than leg, and that's its' lot - I hope my engine isn't reading this.

I have never seen a tablecloth on a boat before. Also, is that tubing behind the tap a water feature? I don't know, you turn your back for five minutes and women run amok!

Why do you think they are called "Scatter" cushions. A cushion is a cushion until you go about. It then becomes a scatter cushion.......I'm surrounded by rank amateurs.......

I reckon somebody could be detailed to go below to maintain S.C in place whilst tacking and I suppose once the cushions start to scatter a reef should be put in although there seems to be little or no info on this in the YM

As long as they float but not too fast, cushions can be chucked over the side to lead a path back to a Person Overboard; I was taught that by a survivor of the Murmansk Convoys.

JFM has i think 74. I have some but only to cover up a bit of dodgy leather. When I upholster, the cushions go in a skip. I think when you have scatter cushions you lose all sense of colour too. Instead of brown, things become camel or sand. A slippery slope, best avoided at all costs. JFM somehow gets away with it though, despite it being totally illogical. Go figure.

The ones on the new boat feel very solid, stodgy, impermeable (but not uncomfortable). So based on the remarkably effective red cushion in the relevant YM video, I have mine down as primary damage-control items, should the worst ever happen. "Hole in hull, Immediate Action No 1: put a cushion over the hole and stand on it."

The biggest problem is when you are sailing a long leg and SWMBO fetches a cushion into the cockpit. I throw the damn things down into the saloon as soon as I know I'm going to be doing anything because they are a trip hazard and an all round pita...........

Its called self stowing, I tend to find scatter cushions can double up as pillows...
From experience most things on a boat self stow.
Cushions are the lease of my worries,
Sleeping bags, laptops, phones, cloths, oilskins, bread, fenders, pens, pencils, sails, small children, dogs...
Tend to end up on the deck, once there they seem quite happy until next time you tack...
A fender? Depends which lands first...
Note to self must secure stuff properly before going sailing...

Easy, just jam them into any open fronted book locker, keeps them in and stops any loose contents already in the locker from falling out.
