Anyone been to Scarborough ?

The new 24 hour access deep water should bring it up to one of the top Marinas of the East coast.

Annual berth fees for 12m £2800 ???

Just needs Bridlington and Skegness to make the North Sea more family friendly for cruisers.

and £2800 for 12 M seems very pricy for East Coast.
Lowestoft Haven....no not where you are banned /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ..the other one /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif....is 155 per metre + vat = £2185


Scarborough though could be interesting. need to check if its in range from Lowestoft.

135 nm ish from you I think
Lowerstoft to Grimsby is 100 nm
Grimsby to Scarborourgh 70 ish

I keep looking out for a new base and Whitby is close to Scarborough and much easier to drive to than the South coast, I need local knowledge such as swell damage, seagull crapp, drunken louts throwing beer bottles etc

No you have not missed anything at Gib, part tide inlet with a coffee bar hence 'room for improvement' /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Grimsby has very easy access +/- 2 hours free flow and they will lock you outside of these times but not an easy lock to use.
Good stop over for fuel if RNSYC are in a raggies only mood, good club at Grimsby will give a warm welcome but a bit of a commercial smelly Fish dock.

Lincoln is a little too far for a Taxi thanks but I would be keen another year as I plan to have a boat closer to home by then. I think /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Been there on our journey up ... un-planned stop as we took "some" green water over bow, which shattered flybridge screen, threw off one antenna etc...

Seemed a nice place with knowledgable harbour master and team. Helped us in sideways to do repairs in very restricted depth.... a nice friendly bunch.

Before the 24 hr access marina though, so bound to be better... Seaside a bit noizy during WE was our opinion..... at that price it is still more than twice what we pay for 15M, but sounds like good value. OK coastline, but perhaps a bit exposed ...

Understand ...
Scarborough have laid 50 new pontoon moorings for the 100 on the secret waiting list !
Seems they finally decided that with three remaining fishing boats meant they'd go for the leisure market instead !
Visitor moorings (afloat) are limited to 6 only by prior phone booking. Difficult to raft as side of new dredged channel slopes up to mud. Yet to visit.
Bridlington news is very positive though at long long last - shh - the missing link at last ??
Grimsby (Fish Dock marina) is very amicable and a regular stop for us - nice club trying very hard but almost full - nice visitor moorings with power etc, next to clubhouse and facilities. Remarkable though the derelict surroundings are not new apartments yet - understand its politics again and ABP stuff. Lots more room for them to expand into but ABP interested also.
Grimsby lock is only available about 1 hour either side of freeflow +/- 2hrs high tide at usually £5 ? per opening unless you go through with members. Beyond that it then drys outside.

Some Harbours do seam incredibly slow on the uptake that the Fishing fleets are gone for good, even Dover has realised the Ferries are no longer reliable and are keen to welcome pleasure boats.

When red diesel goes there could be many boaters looking to save £2 k and cheaper East coast marinas could get busy especially if road taxing per mile is introduced.
or perhaps the extra cost per mile will make the Solent even more popular ?
