scaffolding pole ID

does any one know what the ID of scaffolding pole is? have searched with google but nowt comes up. need 8 ft pole to mount my ampair 100 on and need 38 mm hole to shove it in

Telephone a builders hire shop; they will tell you straight away I would have thought.

8 ft is very high, can't you kink the pole and have it overboard on the transom? It is only aesthetic I guess, but most poles are only 2m tall when you get them from the manufacturer. Have you also considered stainless it might not be as expensive as you might think......

They do not have 38mm but they may be able to get it?

Yes agree with others, try a scrap yard for dirt cheap stainless tubing. Much lighter and will look better.

Phone a few dairies/breweries etc and ask for the engineers. You should be able to scrounge some suitable s/s dairy tube. Much, much lighter than scaffold tube and a lot better looking.

the stuff you're after is called 'schedule 40' tube. i have some in aluminium for my air marine generator. the OD is 47.5 and ID 39.5.

i had a hell of a time finding it as i phoned the firm recommended and they said they didn't sell it. in the end i found out that they don't sell 'pipe' and i should have asked for 'tube'!!

I confused about the diameters quoted as I have recently been sorting some rails out for my Cricket Club. I was going to use scafold pipe with those fancy connectors that you see on handrails (the ones with allan grub screws in them) but was firmly told that scafold was 2" (ie 50.8 mm) and the tube for the conncetors is 48 mm and not compatible.

I used scafold in the end with scafold clips and won't bore you with the health and safety man's conversation about where our 'scaf tag' was...

On a serious note what about alluminium tube?much lighter than mild steel and easier to work with than stainless.

yes, that's what i have. scaffold pole is available in aluminium and, judging by its condition after 4 years, it's anodised.
