Wim Jansen - Known to many in these parts as Wim the Tim.

Apart from his achievements with Feyenoord and Holland he famously delivered the SPL Championship thereby stopping the 'ten in a row'. More significantly, he brought the Divine Henrik to Glasgow and the rest is history.

Who was that famous Dutch Admiral who whipped the English, and then under pressure from returning Orangists was murdered by the mob and had his liver and heart cut out and eaten?

The Dutch bequeathed to Europe [and the world] free trade, progressive banking and capitalism. Not satisfied with that, they then invaded Britain and won!

It often seems to me that it was between the anvil of the Church [represented at this crucial stage by Louis XIV of France], and the hammer of Dutch free trade, that Europe and the modern world have been forged.

The Dutch were for a century and more the most influential people in the world. One major reason for their decline from the world stage is William's theft of the English throne. He knew he could create a better Holland out of England.

And then little Englanders like UKIP tell us we're not part of Europe! Hah!

The most influential dutchman in historic terms has to be William [as in the third of England - married to that traitorous b**ch Mary - of Orange born 1650], because of how he shaped the future of Europe - but there were greater men than him. I'd vote for that Admiral whose name I have now remembered Cornelius de Witt. If greatness can be measured by votes on a TV programme, he should have had many.

Certainly more than any footballer - [I despair of this generation!!!!!]

I think I get the picture Nick. Just a few facts: Johan de Witt was the great statesman. Cornelius was his older brother. As a statesman, Johan gave order to settle a final issue with the English and thus ordered admiral Michiel de Ruyter to go on his Chatham details. Johan joined Michiel during these activities. Both brothers de Witt (Johan and Cornelius) were slaughtered by the "common" people during Johan;s visit to Cornilus who was imprisoned in Den Haag.

Re: Beatrix

Hertz was the guy who owned the NY yellow taxis and then bought over a small car hire firm. That's why the Hertz coulours are yellow.

Nothing to do with the question just a gem of knowledge....
