Saw this in Chatham Marina boatyard today.

On the 747 which used to ferry Space Shuttles around:

Many years ago on one of the earlier OSTARs the Royal Marines were buzzing about in their IRCs doing marshalling type stuff with prominent "ROYAL MARINES" banners on the tubes. Someone made a comment about good publicity unless you mess up, to which there response was, we though of that, it says "PARACHUTE REGIMENT" on the bottom.

I used to race in a fleet of 26ft One Design boats. One of them had HELP! written in large letters along the garboard. The owner was fairly unpopular and one of the yard hands painted it as they were launching.
When my brother and I built a Mirror dinghy in 1968 we painted the hull white but with HELP in large red letters either side of the centreplate on the bottom of the hull. So the photo I posted just brought back memories. This yacht only had the wording on one side. I wonder why?
