Save Motor Boats Monthly

I wouldn't worry about that.. Any number of us on here could pick it up and start a spin off forum if they wanted to shut it down.. :)

I admire your confidence, but on the whole, this is a well run forum (Lounge excepted :D), and will need a fair bit of effort to maintain I would guess.

Not saying anything should change on the forum, and I agree it's well run (if a little limited in the number of photos that can be uploaded before the quota is exhausted ;) ) but if it was being shut down for what ever reason it would be a shame to loose the community that has developed here so would be resurrected by the members I am sure..

Forum sites are not hard to maintain.. A web server and a copy of vBulletin is all that's needed (or even one of the free forum software packages).. I administer many web servers and sites and it's really not that time consuming for something relatively "standard" like this.. Just needs enough resource to handle the load but that's not hard to expand as demand grows..

Obviously I would rather see it stay as is because it's a great resource and community..

OK, thanks, very reassuring, but who would fund the servers and maintenance?

I don't think the issue is lack of money in the young, my daughter and peer group are much more affluent than my generation at the A&E age
Average wage .
"Workers reach £26,000 earning peak at age 38
Official figures show the earnings peak has moved up from 29 to 38 since the 1970s. For men, the age is up from 38 to 50"
Daily Telegraph.
Average cost of marina berth £ 3200 PA.?

Do agree about with your point about dead tree media :)

Lost cause. Best you can hope for is an epublication to your PC/tab.
Just had a radical thought. There must be a Forumite with pro editing skills. Why not publish our own with contributions from forumites and published quarterly. I for one would be happy to contribute as there is limited media for grumpy old blokes who have to get the hands dirty and spill blood to keep their boats afloat. Takers?

Isn't that what many are doing on here already, updated 24x7?

How many average people own a boat in a marina?

Well i consider myself average, work for the NHS, average salary for my age, we own a boat which was relatively inexpensive to buy (Just over 5 grand) and keep it at a marina on the Gt Ouse (£1300 pa mooring fees)

Why o why. it is not selling enough. Reminds me of the old Mini still being produced 12,000 units a year & loosing money on every one ! BMW come along with a new Mini & within 3 yrs it is selling 250,000 units a year.
Combine it with MB&Y & it should be a very good read.

David

Too many glossy photos in the mags. A whole page takes seconds to 'read'.
Twenty years ago I flew in an 'interesting' plane for three hours and MBM kept me from loosing it! When I gave up my subscription last year I used to read the whole mag in the bath.

That last bit isn't helping as you don't say whether you have to top up the hot water or not :o

Seriously for a moment though, I'd agree with you but thought that the recent re-vamp was a big improvement so very sorry to see it go. Provided a different mag to MBY and they complemented each other IMHO
