Satellite radio receivers – has anyone tried them

I am thinking of getting a little portable satellite radio so that I can listen to BBC radio beyond the range of longwave Med and Southern Biscay mostly. Its nothing to do with missing the Archers of course! Has anyone tried them. Do they work inside a plastic boat? Any issues I might need to think about.
