Satelite antennas

At the boat show I had a brief chat about Satellite systems. On our previous Phantom 42 we never really did manage to get a decent TV signal and so thought about fitting Sat TV. The problem then was it's cost. Now the price has come down our Princess 42 has a really good aerial and so we don't really need it!

The Tracvision M3 (I think) is around £2,000 but Marine Electronic Services were doing a deal. I think it was around £1,750 but don't quote me.

One of the key issues is where you intend to use it. Astra 1G for instance has the UK well within it's coverage area, but get down to southern Spain and Gibralter and you are right on the margins for coverage. The same is true of Astra 1H, Astra 2A south (better for Southern Italy), and Hotbird. Hispasat shows southern Spain in better coverage.

CA Clase are also a good contact and have info sheets which include a re-print of the Motor Boats Monthly know how fitting Satellite TV feature where they fitted a Tracvision M3.

Hi Henry,
The liklihood is we will be staying around UK waters for most of our boating but you never know, if we feel confident enought o go further afield then for sure we will. Thanks for the heads up on the other options, will take a look.

i have a vuqube by maxview.
it takes me a few minutes to set up(10 at the very most) and i have never had a problem.
i have watched satellite tv from newcastle to brittany without a problem....£600 maybe a little cheaper now.
i dont have a self tracker so i can only watch satellite whilst tied up.
my version will not work at anchor or tied on a swinging mooring.
i'm very happy with it.

hope this helps

Just to confirm "Astra" etc are the names of the satellites which carry tv signals, not makes of dish !
