Sardinia Summer 2015

Btw, your boat is pointing W in that pic, so I guess it was exactly the case I mentioned, with a bit of westerly swell which didn't bother you as long as you were pointing towards it, till the wind turned SE and you had that residual swell hitting you right on your stbd side...
No there was no swell at all. It was a perfect day and I would have loved to have stayed there all night but I'd seen the forecast. That night when we anchored in Mezzaluna with MYAG taught me that its no place to stay when the wind turns to the south:eek:

This is exactly my point in all anchors debate.
I have to say that other than this occasion, my Delta has performed excellently in and around SW Sardinia this season. There have been times when I have thought that it is never going to hold in this wind but it has. In this case in Caletta, I blame myself, not the anchor, for unknowingly dropping it in a patch of weed. Even so it only dragged a short distance and then held

Nope I'm not a fan of the lightweight modern anchor + a bit of string approach either. IMHO a heavy modern anchor + a load of heavy chain is always going to perform better. I hope that next season I will be able to make a comparison between my existing 60kg Delta and a 55kg Rocna which should be interesting

Whilst on the subject of sunsets.
These were taken just round the corner in Mezzaluna.

We were the only people in that bay at the time so we "wound up the audio" and had some terrific echoes/sound effects from the surrounding cliffs.
Fantastic evening.

Underwater and searchlights lighting the cliffs.
The photo doesn't really do it justice.
Magic moments - these

Knowing the place like the palm of my hand, I perfectly see what you mean, but stunning pics nonetheless.
In flesh, it must have been a surrealistic experience! :encouragement:

Never been a u/w lights fan, but I must admit that in front of Mezzaluna caves I can think of a great use for them - bear with me for a minute, and figure this out:

1) Several u/w lights equipped boats, rafted up in the position of your pic but much closer to the cliffs (MYAG style, with stern lines ashore, as near as possible to the caves);

2) At dusk, all of them fire up all the lumens available, including search lights and mirrored disco balls pointed to the cliffs surrounding the bay;

3) The boat with the most powerful loudspeakers, possibly equipped with music-driven RGB lights (above and underwater!), turns the music up - playing stuff like Embryonic Journey, Stairway to Heaven, Grantchester Meadows, Peter Gabriel version of Heroes... just to name but a few - but you can replace those with whatever floats your boat, so to speak... :)

4) And last but by all means not least, the icing on the cake: snorkeling inside the illuminated caves, surrounded by the music echoes. :cool:

If that wouldn't be the ultimate swimming experience, I don't know what else could.

Oh, and with all the technological folks around here, we could even think of filming the event - underwater, from onboard, and needless to say from the air.
Maybe streaming it online too, along the lines of the old TCM stunt from NYC...

...a "spot the Ro-Ro ferry", for a change vs. the usual STB. Any ideas?
It should actually be easy for you folks north of the Channel, because the thing spent most of her life bringing people back and forth the IoW, and just a few years ago was sold and moved down here. :)

Following my post of last year, when jfm spotted St Catherine ferry from this pic alone (and other comments followed), her sistership St Helen is also around here now, for the records.

And for those of you who are now familiar with CF, they replaced the old (well, older, anyway :)) Sibilla and Vesta, which as I understand are still in service in Sicily.
Pretty much like humans, it seems that as ferries get older, they move South to enjoy some warmer weather....! :cool:
