Thanks Paolo. From the temperature point of view then, CF is quite a good place for we cold blooded northern Europeans to leave our boats, not so blisteringly hot in the summer and mild in the winter. Now all the Sardinians need to do is to build a bridge from the 'mainland' to S Pietro to get rid of those time wasting ferries and CF would be perfect

Actually I'm surprised that some enterprising San Pietran hasn't set up a water taxi service from the mainland to CF. Its not so bad travelling home because you can time your departure from the boat to coincide with a ferry departure but when you are travelling to CF, you can be waiting 1-2hrs at the ferry port for a ferry to CF and that is really a PITA. Maybe you should buy a nice Novurania RIB and go into business yourself? It would give you something to do instead of just sitting around drinking beer and prosecco

Funny you should mention the taxi though, because some years ago someone thought to arrange an even faster service with an amphibious Cessna 208, capable to land on the hard (in CAG) and in the water (in CF), hence offering the faster possible connection to/from the island.
It didn't materialise, though. I'm not sure if the reason had to see with the demand not being high enough to justify the investment, or with some technical issues...

Monday/Tuesday's trip to Sant Antioco.

MapisM very kindly called the boatyard that he uses and checked that they had enough fuel for us.
He also reserved a table at one of his favourite restaurants in the town of Sant Antioco.

Daughter left at mid day Monday so, off we went with the idea of calling into a very quiet anchorage on the south of Sant Antioco island.
There was a mistral blowing hard and we all thought that by going to the south of the island, we would be able to anchor out of the wind.

We turned the corner at the southern tip of the island and expected the wind to stop but it kept on blowing.
Pics of rough seas always come out looking not so rough when they are viewed later.

Actually, this did us a favour because we pressed on to the town and refuelled - 2850 litres since Mahon - not bad - 1.61 euros per litre but I did get an exchange rate on my Mastercard of 1.44 to the pound so a little saving but the fuel in Italy is expensive.

After refuelling, we had a few G&Ts and then set off to a delicious dinner in town.

Following morning the wind had dropped so we retraced our route and anchored in Torre Cannai.
These are the pics.

The bay gets its name from this tower.

We launched the dinghy and climbed up the hill to the tower.

Later - back on the boat and after some great swimming/snorkelling

The water round here is even clearer than round San Pietro

The wind dropped completely.
And we even drifted past our own anchor

In the early evening, the wind picked up again and our guests were due to leave in the morning so we set off to Carloforte for the night.

Currently, we are regrouping again - MYAG arrived yesterday and is setting off in the next couple of days - that will leave us on our own again - until someone else turns up.
There is always something going on here - time doesn't seem to stand still.

One of the best threads in years, I am off to Sardinia at the end of August, sadly (well not that sadly) it's a Mark Warner Beach club so the only boating I will be doing will be in a Laser, which I am very happy with! Its the Perdepera Beach Resort in the absolute middle of nowhere!

Dunno where that is Richard but we will be on our boat in CF until 2nd Sept so if you can get yourself to CF or somewhere near before that date you'd be most welcome to join us for a couple of days cruising

Thats very kind of you, it's slap bang in the middle of the East Coast but sadly we wont have a car also I will have 14 month old and a 14 year old to entertain although I am hoping they (Mark Warner) will do that!

Yes true that would be quicker, but S Pietro might also become more crowded and therefore lose some of its quaint charm.

Can't give you the charge per night but its costing me about €4000 for 6 months mooring from May to Oct for a 20m berth which is the cheapest I've come across in the Med
