MapisM this is a tough one, it looks like your reflection is in a largish air bubble, possibly trapped on the underside of the hull in the main engine exhaust moulding? Not familiar with a P67 though the whiteish curved lip in the bottom left corner of the pic looks familiar as it often gets glassed in to the hull structure that way. Seems there are blotches of blue gel/paint around the edges too, didn't/doesn't Princess gel/paint blue bands on some of their exhaust cowlings?

Anyway, I'll be there on Weds to check you haven't photoshopped the pic!

Bingo - on stbd side, for the records.
Hat off (also to others who already mentioned the exhaust, in fairness), because it wasn't trivial to guess the position in which the pic was taken - i.e. looking straight up vertically from under the hull.

I don't think that the flat water surface inside the exhaust moulding was created by a trapped air bubble, though.
My guess is that when the engines are turned off, the exhaust cooling water just flows down through the risers for gravity, settling at the waterline level for obvious reasons.
In fact, the water surface was deeper (=higher, relatively to the bottom of the hull) inside the hole than it might appear from the pic.
And by and large, such distance was just as much as the w/l above the chine, in that point of the hull.

But what's more interesting is that in spite of the fact that there wasn't (obviously) any light inside that hole, the sunlight on my own body underwater was enough to create the reflection.
Not to mention the blue background, created by the sandy seabed, also illuminated by the sun, but some 7-8 meters below...!

Worth mentioning also another reason for the distorted image, on top of the reflection effect: some bits are actually internal parts of the exhaust (like the circle overlapped with my mask, and the line that seems to cut through my mask and the camera), mixed up with the reflected image.
TBH, I didn't even notice them while taking the pic (and I have no clue about their purpose), but in hindsight, I can't think of any other reason for those geometrical shapes.

I'll grab an u/w torch, next time!

My initial thought was that it was MapisM's reflection in the pin on my Chain Stopper - but then I woke up and reality got the better of me.

No specific itinerary Pete but we will leave CF in a couple of days and most likely visit each island in the order they appear. 3 weeks seems about right to get a feel? Deleted User very kindly wrote up suggestions of nice places to visit so I do have some local knowledge to refer to, other than that I'll switch on the plotter once the engines have started!

Sounds like a good 'anti' plan. Make sure you don't overshoot or you'll end up in Benidorm or worse still San Carles! Have fun.

Alas I'm afraid not, its time to push on but I'm happy to say that we have had an extremely pleasant month at CF, it really is a special place. Making many new friends means it wont be too long before we return, quite possibly in the Autumn. Thanks to you all and if S could just pass on the correct time now and again I will take comfort in the knowledge that it is still working!

Just a quick "catch up" post.
We have been away and had a full boat so not had much time to update this thread.

This post is from a recent round the island (San Pietro) that we did in company with MapisM. We anchored in Cala Vinagra for the day and then pushed on to Caletta for overnight.

Here is a chartlet showing the track.

We had been to Cala Vinagra before but it seemed even more beautiful this time.

You do see some strange things sometimes.

And that old "sea dog" seemed to be the skipper when he got back to his boat.

Also a couple more shots from MapisM.
IMO, he really has a great "eye" when he takes his photos.

There was a Sirocco wind forecast (South Easterly) that evening with the possibility of a Mistral following so we then moved on to Caletta which is a large sandy bay on San Pietro.

We arrived just in time for the sunset and after a complete cockup with my newly acquired anchoring skills, we were able to take these stunning sunset pics.

Next.......... a two day trip to the next island of Sant Antioco.

MYAG assuming even you haven't got the balls to brave the shallows going into the fuel dock at CF, I stand to be corrected but I think your nearest fuel dock is at the SACIRN yard in S Antioco http://www.sacirn.it/distributore%20carburanti.asp. Unfortunately that means retracing your steps somewhat going back around the south side of S Antioco unless you can persuade a local to lead down the very shallow channel on the north side of the island and even then, you'll have to check the bridge height under which you have to go to get to the fuel dock

Actually, Mike, apart from the fishing harbour (which is do-able - I've done it - in ignorance actually), the nearest is Calasetta at the north end of Sant Antioco.
Calasetta has a new fuel berth and we saw a road tanker going in so the fuel should be fresh.

However, we decided that we would like a cruise down to Sant Antioco town and check out those bays in the south.
MapisM booked the fuel for us and a nice restaurant in the town,
We also did the tourist thing whilst there and visited Museo del Bisso.
Spent a couple of days away - I'll post a report with pics - they should be interesting.

Thats interesting, I didn't realise there was a fuel berth there. Thanks for that. There seemed to be quite a few fishing boats and of course, the ferries, in Calasetta so I guess the fuel berth has a reasonable turnover of fuel all year round which is good. Any idea what the price per litre is?

You won't be able to mix "round the corner" with "beach bars" I don't think.
The anchorage we went to was very quiet and peaceful.
Gorgeous.

Fuel price in Sant Antioco was 1.61 euros - I got lucky and got the pound rate at 1.44
