Sardinia Summer 2015

The new forum name for the Balearic Islands is the BALDRICKS.
IMO it is much easier to say as well - I could never get my tongue around Balearics.

MYAG has to take ownership of that one. I can personally testify that after about 20 cans of Sardinia's finest beer, he is incapable of pronouncing the word Balearics:D:D

Teehee, seems they provide a boat service for their regulars too :) :)

Well I suppose after you emptied the supermarket of that brand of beer, they had to push the boat out to keep you topped up;)

I stocked the boat today - provisions for SWMBO coming back tomorrow.
Got some fresh fruit etc from the market but then did some "man shopping" some of those kegs of beer.
MYAG must take the responsibility for that - his fault - he introduced me to them.
Thankfully my flybridge cool box is working - got two kegs in at the moment - might be able to fit another one in.
:D:D:D

special thanks to MapisM for showing us around without who we would never have found some of the stunning places we visited.
Don't mention it, that was a great pleasure indeed. Many thanks again to you, K, and all your crew for a fantastic hospitality onboard AG!

Btw, re. local beer (and I'm now talking also to other folks currently based in CF), there's one thing I forgot to mention, which the latest posts on Ichnusa reminded me of:
They also make an unpasteurised version, whose label is similar but clearly shows "Cruda", which is the IT for unpasteurised.
According to some local friends of mine who are more expert on beer than myself, it's worth the (just slightly) higher price...

It's a bit late to tell us that now MapisM!

LOL, hey, I'd tell you the full list of my secrets, but then I'd have to kill you! :D
Just as an example, below is a spot I'm keeping aside for the next occasion when MYAG, Hurricane and Deleted User will be back here all together.
After the recent experiences, it would be interesting to post a pic of their three boats rafted together inside there...... :)

Yeah, a very nice pic indeed. I feel entitled to say so, because it isn't mine... :)
In fact, when I said that I was reserving the spot for the next cruise, I was actually cheating - sort of - because the above place is indeed in Sardinia, but a bit far from CF: in Orosei Gulf, along the eastern coast.
I posted a few other pics of that area last year in this thread, just in case anyone is planning to cruise there:

Not that there's shortage of nice spots also around CF anyway, as already shown by the previous pics!
Apropos, eventually we had a bit of Mistral, in the last few days.
So, I took the opportunity to play with Movie Maker a bit, putting together a collection of images and clips of forum boats around CF...
All the places in the video are within a dozen or so of NM from CF, both around San Pietro island and along mainland Sardinia.

MapisM
Thanks for taking the time to put that video together.
You really have an eye for that kind of thing - both in the water filming it and then afterwards editing the images.
That video will go with my collection of memories on this fantastic voyage this summer to your cruising grounds.

We did the caves at Mezzluna a couple of days ago and watched the sun set - took some more great pics - will post them later.

Family and friends are now with us and there is a break in the mistral so we will be heading out again in the next few days to do it all again!!

That was a really very nicely edited vid, P, thank you for posting. Beautiful pics of stunning scenery (and stunning boats). Very nice u/w shots as well.

He only posted it to rub in what a great time he is having.......while we are still at home! :D:D:D

Thanks folks, glad that you liked the video - I surely enjoyed putting it together.
And as another forumite said, it's worth having some nice memories to review, whenever in the future we should be stuck in a wheelchair... :o :p

@AM: that fender placement actually is not meant to protect anything.
It's just a clever way to stow the fenders, tying them on the rails around the pointy bit of the boat (hence living the walkaround passages clear while cruising), and throwing them outside while anchoring, to avoid interferences with the winches/rollers.
I suppose that what made you wonder are the few moments in the video when you see the boat cruising with the fenders out, but that's just because we were moving from a daily anchorage to another one just round the corner where we overnighted, so it wasn't worth pulling them back in for less than a mile of coastal cruising in great weather...
Of course, as you can also see in the video, the most lazy among us (myself included!) use the even simpler approach of pulling them in along the walkaround, and throwing them out while anchored, without stowing them at all! :D

Indeed, he's doing a pretty good job at it too :). The weather gods haven't been favourable to us here so far. This summer has been exceptionally cold, two days ago it was +12 C and today was only marginally better. Water is still way too cold for swimming without sauna. Videos like that really bring home how different it is down there.

12 C is pretty cool SM, that's our average mid-winter daytime maximum.

So you folks use the sauna to heat the body temperatures back up after a swim? I wondered why they were so numerous around the many boating facilities.

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing this used/mentioned on another thread somewhere. It makes a lot of sense, especially with the fenders being so large.

...So you folks use the sauna to heat the body temperatures back up after a swim?...

It's sort of the other way around. In the old days, sauna has been the primary means of cleansing oneself by heating the body enough to start sweating and thus help in getting rid of the metabolic waste. The actual washing up has been done in sauna, using warm water heated on a separate stove. Swimming has served the purpose of cooling the body down enough to stop sweating. This is still pretty much the routine today, I personally like to take an one final swim before putting the clothes back on to stay fresh afterwards.

Your observation did make me smile, though. It sort of highlights the fundamental differences between our living environments :).
