The last that I heard was that it wasn't finished but does provide good shelter. Suggest that you arrive there in plenty of time and if unhappy with the location take your boat down to Ag. Nic. on Crete and travel back by ferry. I've left my yacht several times at Ag. Nic. while I've returned to the UK with no problems.
Don't, under any circumstances, be tempted to use the old town quay at Santorini - the wash from passing ferries is huge and it seems that the island sewage gets pumped out about 100 metres in front of the quay - yuk.

Have heard that the entrance to the marina is bit rocky and needs care. One possibility is to moor in Ios, find someone to look after the boat, and go to Santorini by ferry.
