Some might be interested in the progress of this new Med marina.
If you find it boring - just move on.

SWMBO and I have just returned from a few days down there. It seems that we missed some stormy weather in the UK. Spain was cold but during the day the sun made it quite out - SWMBO even managed a bit of sun bathing.

The marina is "coming along" - but it seems to be suffering a bit from the "Spanish Way" of doing things - slowly. They also seem to do things twice (or even more) - for example digging up landscaped land because they forgot to put in pipes etc.

Anwyay - for those interested here are a few pics - maybe to cheer you up on those cold wet days at home.

This is the centre of the marina - offices and loos etc. Also a clubroom/bar.

The swimming pool still needs a lot of work but it should be ready for the season.

The berths were finished last summer but improvements are still going on.

The boat yard is superb - they've polished the concrete so that it can be cleaned very easily - at the moment you could eat your lunch off it - and I mean that. Sorry about the darkness of the pics - it was late - actually we were walking down to take some pics and another forumite from these forums spotted us and invited us in for tea - it was almost dark when we actually got to the yard.

And finally, the fuel berth

All in all - we were pleased and cant wait for later in the year when things start to get used.

Thanks hurric. Looking good now. I noticed a hard standing space by the crane, with boats on the hard. Is the plan that you can lift out for a couple of months drying out in the einter at reasonable cost, like in the UK? We can't do that in France (craning is cheap but the cost of renting a rectangle of hardstanding is massive) so the boats stay in all winter. Just curious to know if Spain is more UK-ish in this regard

Hi Hurricane.

Looks like a great marina. I had a discussion with them both at LIBS a couple of years ago and also at Palma Boat Show. regarding opening a Training Centre there. Must say they were very positive and then went silent?? Do they have any facilities for UK clients to gain their qualifications??

Well - there's a thing
The marina manager has been trying to match his costs to the local ones.
He was surprised to find that storage costs ashore are at a premium and that the actual lifting prices are relatively (well in comparason to UK prices) cheap.
So in answer to your question, I understand that its going to be the same as everywhere else - expensive ashore.

Nothing there at the moment - and there is plenty of space for offices etc on the left of this photo - not built yet though.
I believe that the management havent yet pushed the space yet but are intending on marketing it later this year.

My thanks too - it is looking good and it's good to get an independent review!

Any word on how demand for berths - leasing and annual rentals are going?

In the Balearics hard standing is very scarce and it is common for boats to remain in the water for 2 or 3 seasons as hull fouling is not a huge problem if you use the right A/F paint (although of course sterngear fouling is severe but that's a diver job). For my own boat, I make a point of lifting her every year but only for a few days at most which is not enough time to dry the hull out at all. For extended periods ashore, I have heard of boats going all the way to Port St Louis near Marseille to find hardstanding space at a reasonable cost. So, if S Carles can offer plenty of hardstanding at a reasonable cost and there are also a few maintenance companies around who do a good job at a fair price, then that could be a bit of an earner for the marina. Any idea what lift out/relaunch + hardstanding costs are likely to be?

I have a rough price for our boat but the marina is about to publish their actual fees so I wont say anything until I get the actual confirmed prices - only to say that I was pleased with the lifting costs.
