Sanremo

Sanremo the city ? the boat ? There is also a Sanremo in Victoria (Australia), they have a rather nice jetty I used to go fish for trevally there.

Great .Nice Marina with a few bars / coffee shops for breakfast .Lovely town a slam shop near the marina and a mix of old + new shops in the city part .It’s about a 10-15 min walk to the city bit .Some very fancy bigger shops - sort of Harvey Nics standard for the ladies .

With a boat like yours it makes sense , you can always rtn to Fr and anchor off or get an overnighter berth anyhow .
Or skip it except for NCE airport and head E or S direct to Elba / Corsica.
The cost savings of the berth put into diesel and go further .

Also the shore side day to day expenses work s out less .Eg a morning latte at a cafe on the Marina is under €2 , and any pizza under €10 .Not that really matters running a fast boat if you were to add up everything for the whole project , but it just feels better .
When we started to visit Italy from the CdA in the early years I have when been given the bill ( fam of 4 ) got up and taken it back for a recount because they must have left something off , erh nope all added up correctly.

Big proper ship yard at the far end of the Marina can handle massive boats and for you will be familiar with Arnesons , certainly MAN s

Imperia approx next bay ( or two ? ) along is also a great place . You are getting a few more miles further down the motorway .

Depends a bit on the home flights .
Pre Covid and using the boat at 1/2 T living in the U.K. while kids were schooled we use NCE , of course , Bergamo , Milan and Genoa as well to fly into the CdA .
Don’t dismiss theses right now .It all depends post Covid on what flight schedules start to emerge at which times in the year .
Genoa s a loverly airport experience compared to NCE for example.
GE has a particular lovely Marina within walking distance of the Marina too - cuts out transport to the boat .

San Remo would be great toe dipper for you .

Mods - can you sort YOUR soft ware bug out .
Your soft ware rotates the pics despite them being done ( on the device the right way up ) and in your drop box appearing the right way up .
They rotate at the final “ click “ when posted .
Top one the first god knows why is ok ?

You are gonna end up with a decaying forum as rivals are sooooooo much easier to use .
Porto !

Sanremo is probably the nicest of the cities this side of Genoa, its large enough to have a normal life even in the winter months (btw I have house and boat in Sanremo since 15+ years). Portosole is a good marina, walking distance to city center, bit on the expensive side (I pay 7500 Euro for a 14mt berth) but the convenience of not needing the car is huge. The seawall was redone 2 years ago, we had a few storms where the wave will jump the seawall - have a look Portosole big Waves.

Boating: you have a few nice places very close to the marina, basically Tre Ponti (2 Nm west) see picture, Giunchetto (5 Nm East) and Latte / Mortola ( 11 Nm East), also Plage Mala in Monaco (19 Nm East) if you feel fancy , if I have guests and we want to offer something special we combine this with a tour of Monaco Port.

Main "issue" is the influence of Mistral winds on Sanremo, which tends to get a long swell (does not happen in Monaco) - the local beach has surfable waves (which can go up to 2mt) so it can be a issue or a godsend (I do a bit of surfing every now and then).

Other marinas around - Aregai which is more a boat car park as it is 5 kms away but is cheap (not worth in my opinion).

Water quality is very high in my opinion, I attach you a pic I took a few days ago so you can have an idea.

Only real travel option from here is Nice Airport (1h), pre-covid they had a number of strategic early-morning (6am) flights to Frankfurt / München / London / Zürich and this was one of reason I picked Sanremo, I could take the 6 am to Zürich Monday morning and be in the office at 9 am latest. And fly back Thursday on the 16:40 from Zürich.

If you want a berth in Portosole dont ask the port, there are a few brokers in Marina Portosole which rent out the berths and is way cheaper than the berths directly operated by the marina.

We spent a fortnights holiday there 3 years ago and found it to be a charming place. Plenty of choice for an evening out and the local area was interesting. I can’t say much about the marina I'm afraid though.

Great place, I'd echo what portofino says.

Also if you're into cycling, there is a really great bike track about 18km start to finish.

Another shipyard in the old port well worth a look too.

The bad winter storms that cause problems on the outer wall don't do too much on the other quays. I was on A quay opposite Rolling Stone bar (handy!) on a Falcon 86 and never had issues.

Security is poor , anyone can walk on the pontoons

But is the same everywhere AFAIK, St. trop, Port Garavan, Imperia, Aregai ... I don't remember a single port in the Med where they gave me a key or code - some of them like Bandol or La Maddalena in Sardinia are literally the center of town.

A lot have cctv fwiw and la Na Nap were I was and Loano where I am now have patrolling security guards .
But as mentioned many just have CCTV .
Plus some like loano have a 24 hr guy on watch in the tower , so you can enter and call berthing assistance 24/7 .He’s peering at a dozen screens which are backed up .

The car park and vehicle entrance in most marinas have a barrier fwiw .

I had the trawler in St. Raphael. There are 3 Marinas there, the Vieux Port (old port) is the best by far and smack on in the middle of the city, the "Kennedy Basin" is the quiet part, but be aware of the open air disco bars in summer (ends around midnight). Then Santa Lucia which is huge and is a bit away South from the city - is a bit soulless in my opinion but very quiet.

My berth was at Port Frejus which is North of city center (about 1 km to walk), is ok-ish but basically everyone going for a walk will pass in front of your boat. And this is the area where the tourist rentals are so lots of people are looking at your dinner.

Main advantage of St. Raphael - access to Port Cros / Porquerolles / St. Tropez. Also the highway exit is close to the city. Lots of easy places to boat for the afternoon.

Berth prices are lower than in Liguria, but I remember being 3 years on a wait list before I got a berth - could be different now specially for larger boats.

Try walking onto someone's boat that isn't yours. If a neighbour doesn't make a scene then someone from the port will be along fairly sharply.

As said, most marinas are public access altoough they've just recently stopped that in a few places where it's feasible. Even Port Hercule in Monaco it's fairly easy to walk right up to super yacht passarelles on most quays

Well…….we’ve had a look at st Raphael, old port is 100% not me, St Lucia is ok but would only be somewhere to park the boat and move on to better areas when we are there…….We are in Sanremo now and loving it, not been to any places to moor for a day yet but the town is nice, I’m all ears for a contact to get a berth hear.

Try the azimut guys at the end of pontoon F they rent out berths

EDIT: another one that has berths is Permare, you will find it if you walk down past the last pontoon (G) on the right side - walk in the yard and on the left are the Permare offices.

We went through Luise associates (9 years ago, mind), they had a office there.
