hello all just had a quote to sandblast, gealshield and anti foul.
for a princely sum of 7200 euros plus vat.in france.
the boat is a sail boat of 14meters.
seems expensive to me.
what do you all think?

Yesterday I had a quote from a well known UK yard for peel, blast, hotvac, epoxy treatment. It came to £6085 inc vat, with hints that there's some negotiating room built in. 5 Year yard warranty included.

This is for a 34' x 12' x 2'6" motor boat.

Will be interesting to hear from others.

France has always been terribly expensive for blasting and painting. Can you get the boat somewhere else for the work?
I reckon south coast UK blasting would be about £650 - 700. 20 man hours for 5 coats Gelshield and 8 man hours for 2 coats A/F. At £50/hour that leaves a lot over for materials! All assumes you are not removing gelcoat and needing to dry the hull for an osmosis repair. Also need to add cost of lifting and relaunching which may be included in your quote.

I'm having my 36ft long keel Halberdier done at the moment.
Blasting was £550// Peeling was £625 // and the rest of the job I think will be £1200 ish.

Tony Preston at Wicor Marine Portsmouth.. really nice guy and he uses a surveyor to monitor all the work carried out so you can be sure that your hull is down to the 5% moisture level etc.

I can give you more details if required.

sandblasting would typically be £10 to £12 per foot. coating a hull like yours would be 2 men for 2 days, and the materials - well check up local costs

7200 euro sounds ridiculously high. where are you? the solent? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When you next get a quote tell them its a fibreglass rubish container or skip or old barge and see what the quote is then I bet it would be half the price, not being marine associated (whats in a name) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif))

Also after the five years are up the insurance company that provides the guarantee will not extend it further? so why not leave it for five years and then have it done? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
