Hi All

this is not completely boaty but it sorry of is as it effects my boating if you get what I mean  I have also posted this in the lounge but put it here in case some don't visit the lounge section

I have just fitted a Samsung smart tv on my boat and also have a Samsung galaxy phone and Samsung tablet all 3 devices have the allshare facility

the problem is none of the devices seem to be able to find each other, I have just got home and both phone and tablet are connected to the wifi and I have tried to send vids from each device to the other device but neither seem to be able to find each other

I select a video then click allshare and it searches for another device but says no devices found when they are next to each other

can anyone please tell me what I may be doing wrong and why the devices cannot find each other to share content via allshare

both devices are discoverable in the settings so I am now very confused, it was the same this week whilst on my boat I tried to connect both the tablet and the phone to the tv but with no success

cheers shawn

Not completely familiar with your gear but I think allshare is only for 'publishing' the media content of a device so that another dlna compliant device (your tv in this case) can act as a media player and stream and display it's contents. So, your tv should act as a media player and the phone and tablet should have the allshare on. This way your tv will see what media your devices contain and then play it.

For this to work all the devices should be in the same network. Do you have wifi at your boat and are all the devices connected to it ?

forgive me but I am not techno wiz and I don't know what a lan or a wlan is :o

all I wanted to do was play a video on my phone and watch it on the tv which according to Samsung is sooooooo easy

here is a video of what I am supposed to do

when the video gets to 40 seconds it says select a device but mine does not find any devices so I cannot select any

The video assumes that all the devices are connected to the same network.

At home you have a wifi. There is a wireless router into which your wireless (or wired) devices connect to to create a network of devices (for the purpose of this discussion). All the devices that are on the same network (ie. connected to your router) can talk to each other. Then, when you turn on allshare on your phone and tab, the tv (assuminng that's it's connected to the same network) can see their media contents and play it.

Allshare provides a common way for the devices to communicate and play media within your network.

Edit: your mobile devices are acting as media servers serving their contents to you tv, which is only playing it FROM you device. So you can't send files between the devices using allshare. You need the tv as the media player and all the devices should be on the same network.

So, for this to work you would have to have a (wireles) router on your boat to create the above mentioned network.

Incidentally, I just installed one on mine on tuesday.

As others are saying, you need a wifi router and for each device to be connected through it.

I run my Apple TV through my mobile phone using tethering but not sure of all share will allow this...

Life's getting more complicated or maybe we are all getting older :(

I was hoping that by connecting the smart tv to the marina wifi and then connecting the Samsung tablet to the same marina wifi then I should be able to see stuff playing on my tablet on the tv ?????????? or am I getting it all wrong

the main reason for this is we have now tv on the tablet so was hoping to watch it on the smart tv whilst playing it on the tablet

I don't think a public hotspot allows the connected devices to see each other. So you are doing just the right thing but need a wireless router of your own.

Edit: again i'm afraid you wont be able to stream a tv stream from your tablet. Afaik, allshare can only be used to view files from your device (photos, video files), but not streamed tv. Which tv service you are using for the tv on the tablet? Maybe the samsung has an application for it?

Shame you don't have LG tv's as they have exclusivity on the Now TV app.

Have you got as PS 3 or Xbox, I believe that they have Now TV apps and could be a nice solution for you....

FWIT, I am using a Three Network iphone with unlimited data and steaming Sky Go on my Ipad / Apple TV

I think that the writings on the wall for Sat TV marine fitters ....

I don't know what tv service we use on the tablet, swmbo usually sorts all this tech stuff out but she is in bed with the flu so I was having a play about with it but too be honest I think I will leave it to her

thanks for all the advise but as you say I think I am expecting more than what it is capable of we will just take the now tv box down with us each time as I know this works through the marina wifi as we used it at Christmas

cheers shawn

Lol, i though you now have tv on your tablet :). Wasn't familiar with Now tv before this.

scubaman

we have an app called now tv on the tablet, we have the box which we leave at home for my daughter to use and wanted to use the app to watch now tv when down the boat

when you buy the now tv box you can put the app onto 4 devices the box cost £25 for the box and 3 months subscription then its £10 a month after that, its basically sky movies using a box that plugs into the tv, we had Netflix before this but the films on now tv are a lot more up to date than Netflix

cheers

I've got a Samsung 22" Smart Tv on the boat, and get Internet via a Samsung S3, using The One Plan from Three.

The TV happily uses the Internet from the phone hotspot so I can watch catchup stuff via the Samsung apps.

I haven't been able to get Allshare to work and I'm guessing it's because the phone hotspot doesn't create a network, it merely tethers individual things.

Your TV should connect to the marina wifi, so you should enable to watch catchup stuff.

Nigel

That's a very interesting fact as we were wondering if Samsung may bring the now tv app out some time soon but after your comment I doubt it

cheers

Think its exclusive through September AFAIK...but your box sounds like a good idea...
Keep a look out for the chrome cast dongle that might work for you but I don't think its out in the UK

Think you should be able to airplay from an Android os using that....

I had the same problem with my samsung smart tv / tablet, I now use " iMediaShare " it actually does what the allshare cast app should do, I use my samsung phone's portable wifi hotspot to make the connection between the tablet and the tv then stream movies from the tablet to the large screen, great for when there's no wifi @ the marina, very easy to set up.....
