Samauri Diesel

I really appreciate your input.

This engine is in a boat I am considering buying, hence my concern. Current owner says it was new in 1999/2000 and since it is a 6.5L which I think was only manufactured from 1997 onwards and understand is still current - I tend to believe him. He seems to have done a very tidy job on the installation, which is turbo'd & aftercooled. Certainly not agricutural; our last boat had a 1970's vintage Ford 250TD, so I know exactly what you mean! Whilst on face value the boat seems quite cheap - I suspect that it may not be such a bargain as anyone looking into the pedigree of the engine is going to see the shocking reports, such have been posted on this forum in recent weeks. Whilst I am now warming to the idea of this boat, my real concern is how easy she would be to sell on in future years. I guess the attractive price of the GM engine, may make them more popular in future and resistance may consequently weaken. Although I don't doubt there are some horror stories about these engines, I do wonder whether the bad press has been fuelled by someone with an axe to grind - who knows?

I assume you are in the marine trade so where are you based?

Once again, many thanks.

All best
Ian.
