Saltys on the IOW

I agree the talk here has put it on our list too :)

I completely understand that The Rocks concept is not for everyone, I have given up drinking so Salty's does not work for me any more as I associate it in my mind with a big loud piss up , but if you enjoy " lively" then you should have a good time

Ha! :) that is easier I must admit!

For me, the trouble is (and this is coming from someone who does love Yarmouth but is rather OCD), both The Wheatsheaf & The Kings Head suffer from extreme sticky table & smelly toilet syndrome. If they could resolve these issues they would go up dramatically in my estimations!

We Salliss's are Yarmouth lovers, technically it is a harbour and not a marina, a subtle difference but it makes it more boaty , more authentic and less sterile than some marinas , for a day trip Yarmouth is one of the very best

I love on the rocks. And i like different places for different occasions. I also love a saturday at the folly. The things that people have said here that make saltys intolerable for them make me want to go.

Lisa, you would be welcome at the royal solent. Just need to sign in the visitors book. There are some stuffy members there like all clubs, but most are not. They let me in!

Has good beer (Yachtsmans), wine and food, although the menu selection is a bit limited. Recommend the fillet steak for £20. By far the best view of the solent in Yarmouth. The George is good when the ferry isn't in.

Really?...I would love to take in the views from there so I'll give it a go. It does say that, as a guest, I'd have to be signed in by a member tho?? Maybe I'll give them a ring.
Ooh excited now :D

:)
edit: Wooohooo...just called them and a very friendly lady said as long as you're a visiting yacht to the harbour then you're more than welcome. (I didn't mention it was a mobo tho :D).

We go there and just sign in and walk up stairs and have pre dinner drinks on the balcony whether we are eating there, or in another restaurant or on the boat. The book requires you to enter your club - we just put RYA down as our club.

I am probably the least suited person on earth to the stereotype image of Yacht Club membership, however I have visited a handful now and found most to be very welcoming inc Royal Solent, I like the place, I am now a member of 2 yacht clubs, I don't participate in much of the club activity at all just use them as business meeting places which prove to be cost effective and handy , one is in entral London one on the coast
