Saltys on the IOW

Try it Lisa, I was very much of the same feeling, do I really want to be cooking my own food?!!! But so long as you are not veggie, the quality of the steaks are superb, the salads are fantastic and the skinny fries as good as you get in France...

The raw food at the Rocks is fresh, so if it ain't cooked right then you can't complain as you cooked it, genius

You can't complain as your the chef
They have no kitchen only a chip fryer
Less washing up
Less staff just young ladies arranging raw food on plates

Very clever and they charge you the same as a normal decent eatery,

We like it a lot and go at least twice a year, we have started to favour it over Salty's as the noise at Salty's is too much

Whatever you might think of Saltys they do give good Cod & Chips. Took some Chinese in there and had to explain why there were kids, ladies and men's sizes. The fish was bigger than they were :)

Rarely a dull moment in there.

It is what it is.

Henry :)

A general rule is to eat where the locals eat. I don't think many locals eat in Salty's. Draw your own conclusions...

You have to live with each other on a daily basis and as such judge a restaurant as much by the owners as it's food. We just want to eat, what people get up to when we leave for home is of little concern.

I'm sure if I was a long time resident I would have an opinion.

For what it's worth I've never been overly impressed by On The Rocks. I found the steak over cooked and tough. The Wheatsheaf & The Kings Head both deliver good food on a regular basis. The former amazes us during Old Gaffers when it's ability to cope under pressure is unbelievable.

I think even visitors generally take more into account than just the food - the opportunity to stand on tables seems to influence many on here. Don't you cook your own steak in On the Rocks?

Which is why we choose to eat in restaurants who cook the food for you :)

Henry :)

Ha! :) that is easier I must admit!

For me, the trouble is (and this is coming from someone who does love Yarmouth but is rather OCD), both The Wheatsheaf & The Kings Head suffer from extreme sticky table & smelly toilet syndrome. If they could resolve these issues they would go up dramatically in my estimations!

When in Rome...

Everyone seems to be forgetting that the caulkies are still living in the nineteen fifties. So, expect a decent rowdy atmosphere in a rowdy place and sticky tables in a pubby place and smelly bogs everywhere.

If you want the Hoxton Grill or anywhere that AA Gill has reviewed in the last 20 years a clue is:

It's on the North Island.

:D

We've decided on Saltys (restaurant bit) for a bit of saturday night revelry. I shall report back.
Thanks again fellas.

That's very true but the feedback has made me a tad inquisitive (that and I don't really fancy cooking my own food tbh :ambivalence: ).
