Yes it will be. We pay 13k for a 10m. It goes up every year. It is expensive but very convenient, 5mins from home for us. This means we can use the boat more for example evenings in the week.

How is it 'taking the piss' if people are paying it? It's called obtaining at market value. Presumably when you sell anything, your house, your car, whatever, you try and get the maximum that you can? It's pretty normal.

If the marina is half empty you might have a point. Is it..?

Looking around the Marina it would appear they're pretty fussy about age / condition of boats.
Maybe thats why you have to put your details on a waiting list.
Only £3,250 for a premier Jet Ski mooring!

£50 a night for a visiting 10m yacht - bargain! 😀

It's £55 overnight in the season at Exmouth.

Cheapest pontoon berth we had on our trip round was £5 - including electricity! Not on the South Coast!

It was 18k, that is taking the pizz
They’re in demand I’m afraid..We’re at Cobbs and, with retirement next year, thought moving her down to Noss On Dart might be nice. Online quote, not bad 10% more but that’s doable… phoned the reservation line “oh there’s a 300 waiting list, would you like to join?”. Bleeding ridiculous.. But to be honest, if I was Mr Premier I’d be doubling the fees overnight…

And again, How is it 'taking the piss' if people are paying it?

If you moved to a city and decided to sell your car and buy a bike, would you want as much as you can get for the car, or would you think 'a bike is only £500, that's all I need so I'll sell the car for £500'. If your answer is 'I'd sell it for as much as I could get' then you're not really in a position to complain about anyone else doing the same surely?

I suspect it's more to do with the fact that people happy to pay circa £20K/year for a berth tend to be able to afford (and look after) nice boats. :D

I'm gonna buy a £20k boat at the start of the season / my holiday, sail it around & sell it for £15k at the end - way cheaper than berthing!

Yes and no. Do people pay it? Yes. Happy to pay? That's another question. It depends if your entire focus is on the 'bottom line'. Where I am, various costs gone up significantly (and not just because they have to). In the short term the investors will be happy but I know here, the reason people pay is the lack of practical options in the area, so yep we pay, but we don't forget. Good will and charging a fair price rather than a maximum price for goods is a forgotten concept. I've sold things for a lower price before because it was the right thing to do in the circumstances. Like a guy who built a rudder for me and lets say I got it for 'better than mates rates' because he knew my financial circumstances.

So with marinas yes you could say because we can we will. But that will price out an entire sector of the boating community. It's a hard one to justify on paper but sometimes it is actually better (in the big scheme of things) to charge less. Otherwise the product (in this case the marina) is irrelevant. You could be selling shoes. Just sell them for the maximum profit. Hence why energy companies make record profits and the consumers squeeze their pockets as they don't have options.
