I'm looking to purchase a yacht as a private sale, no broker involved. I need standard forms to protect myself and the vendor. My RYA membership has lapsed so that's not an option at present. Looking at similar threads there are other sources but the links no longer work. Could anyone point to forms that l could down load, l found a form from American Yacht Brokers Association, not sure how this would work in the UK, it also looked complicated to me, plenty of scope for error!

many brokers will charge a reduced fee if a buyer or a seller approaches them with a sale already agreed. The broker can then sort out the contracts, the paperwork, provide use of a client account and also allow all parties to shelter behind their pi insurance.

a fair price for peace of mind?

Non-membership of the RYA isn't a problem, there are forms freely available on their website. The pre-sale agreement is probably more important for you, as it should specify the precise circumstances in which your deposit will be returned. The RYA website has a new boat agreement which you could easily adapt - see http://www.rya.org.uk/sitecollectio...dvice/Buying New/BMF STOCK BOAT AGREEMENT.pdf - but note that it has an error in para 2.4 and should read "return the deposit to the Purchaser". I'm currently using a pre-sale agreement based on this template.
