Salcombe ain\'t expensive

A 13' x 80' boathouse with a slipway and a corrugated iron roof into a tidal creek sold for £402,000 at auction this afternoon.
Who says Salcombe is expensive?

Also reported that houses exchange hands for in excess of 1 million pounds without garage or parking . Complete tossers .

It's a simple case of supply and demand - space is at a premium and the housing supply is limited, so prices are very high. Only the fortunate/successful rich can afford them, often as second homes. Exactly why are they "complete tossers? They will in all probability make a significant gain on their properties, and so can perhaps more fairly be described as shrewd investors.

You can argue that too much wealth is in the hands of too few, but "complete tossers"? I don't think so.

BTW I read in the paper a week or two ago that there's no prospect of developing the property in to accommodation, so that price is effectively for storage.

Only a complete tosser (with more money than brains) would pay that much money for a shed!

Also, people like that, aint very popular down here, because they have priced local people out of the towns they were born and brought up in.

Why are they tossers ?? 'cos Salcombe is nothing special . As a town it offers very lttle . Buy just outside and house prices drop . Value for money etc . Thats why .

What always gets left out of these complaints is that for every property that belongs to someone from outside the area, someone who was born and brought up there originally owned it and sold it...... not actually giving a damn about other local people.

Home rule wouldnt make a blind bit of difference, most locals would still take the money from Johnny Foreigner.

The trouble with pricing locals out of housing (though this isn't a house), is that the new owners spend very little time there, and so as more tourists move in, more local businesses become unviable. So sooner or later a thriving community beccomes a ghost town.

Anyway, this is a different case, it's a boatshed, and expected to remain so. Whether he's nuts or not, only time will tell - who know what other cards he's holding.

Expect the buyer has enough small change left to rent an indecent property lawyer, or cheaper still, buy a baseball bat.
