OK, I'm heading that way on or about 6-8th July, tides are still reasonably spring like according to Meteo Marine, I have downloaded this years channel bouy sketch.
Will overnight in Boulogne and head to the ATSO from there.
Anyone ever used public transport from Calais to St Val? The only option seems to be train to Noyelles and find a taxi if the steam train isn't running. (for non-sailing partner)

Any other tips for for a visit here?

We'll probably see you there - depart Mersea on 4th, depart Ramsgit on 5th, depart Boulogne on 6th. It's a while since I looked at the St V tides but I think that serves well. Noyelle is certainly the closest train station; perhaps there is a bus (yes there is a bus http://www.trans80.fr/horaire-commune-488-NOYELLES-SUR-MER.html) unless you can be clever enough to link up with the steam train to St Valery; they pull into Noyelle right next to the main line station.

I've just finished one of my planning tables for Boulogne to AT-SO and return which I can share if you pm me an email.
 
We'll be heading that way about the same time.. my favourite place along that bit of coast. The entrance can be a bit daunting and I did get stuck in there during a period of strong NW winds a few years ago. Not a great hardship if you're not in a hurry to get back as it has some great restaurants and lovely walks in the town, and of course the steam train round the bay. Lovely place.
 
Only been there by road and stayed in a pleasant hotel for 3 days or so. Loved the town and Le Crotoy.

Just been comparing the buoyage plan of last September with the one in May this year. Quite a change!

Habebty - it says you can pick up the steam train at Noyelles. Not sure about the availability of taxis in Noyelle. Everytime we have driven through the v small town has been pretty deserted. The SNCF station is the other side of the fencing in this shot, so there is no distance to walk at all:

It will be interesting to note the position of the ATSO buoy this year. Altho not mentioned in pilot books at the time, I noticed when I was last there that the ATSO was in transit with the S1/S2 buoys and the lighthouse, so deduced that ATSO was placed to enable you to easily find that first pair of buoys by looking towards the lighthouse.
 
Yes, according to the March plan, AT-SO was still in the same place as the previous year. I guess moving that is a bigger task that the actual bay buoyage.
 
We will probably be in the area for a couple of weeks from around 11 July. Never considered St VsS as it looks too tight for us.
Probably going to go Orwell - Boulogne - Fecamp and then decide if we go to Guernsey/Jersey/St Malo or just potter around St Vaast/Honfleur etc again.
Would like to see the Normandy beaches and Bayeaux.
Pete - did you know that St Valerie and Fecamp are part of the Trans Europe scheme so half price berthing there!

If you get a chance to travel there (probably not by boat) the Museum at Arromanche is superb...
