Bit dinghy orientated, but these sailors race in yachts as well....I notice that Giles Scott seems to be racing ahead on his own at the Finn Gold Cup (currently 52 points ahead of his nearest competitor). Recently Pete Burling and Tuke Blair trounced the competition in the 49er championships.

I do wonder what these sailors have that puts them so far above, what are top sailors as well. I know Ben Ainslie was on top for a long time, but I never got the impression that he was in another league, whereas Giles/ Pete etc do seem to be.

Anyone sailed with these guys and what do you think makes the difference?

Talent, practice, practice, practice - plus in Finns lots of fitness training and gear research

All the top sailors do that though. Giles has been sailing with BAR so may have had less time than others in a Finn in the last year. Pete Burling went along to the Moth Worlds and won that easily even though that is not what he trains on. They both seem to stand out massively.
