Hi there
Sailonline is, I am sure, familiar to many of you, but few realise you can keep an eye on upcoming races by looking in Sailonline's (SOL's) Race Calendar forum here.
The Current Calendar is kept pretty up to date and usually extends about five weeks into the future. You can keep an eye on the races and colour-coding tells you what kind of race it will be. You can also see the boat type to be sailed and the distance involved.
Closer to race time, there may be information posted on SOL's homepage, and then the Race Description itself will appear on the RH side of the homepage. The Race Description is brief but always includes a link to the boat polar and to the course.
Before a race opens on the homepage, it is always possible to preview it by logging in as the sol boat, using the following credentials:
Username: sol
Password: sol
Having just had a brilliant race around the Isle of Wight and successfully buddied with Fjordsailing for this year's Lerwick to Bergen Shetland Race, SOLers are now practising a giant-catamaran sprint round the lighthouses of France's NW coast and the first in this year's series of Tall Ships Races in a 90m Barque (SOL is partnered with Sail Training International for these races) while waiting in the wings is a classic race from this year's Warnemunde Woche.
Hope to see some of you in SOL!
P.S. If any ybw-ers have specific races that they would like to see SOL run, or belong to an offshore sailing club that would like to have a (non-commercia)l buddy to run a virtual replica of one of their races, just say so in SOL!
