The leach of the jib should be OK just left bare not hemmed. At one time it was fashionable to have bare leach just heat sealed to avert flutter. Flutter being a function of mass at the edge. So leach cord is counter productive to flutter. Load on edge of leach does not appear to be great. So no hem not a problem.
However a few small rips might be a concern. You might consider spinnaker repair tape like this PSP Spinnaker Repair Tape 50mm x 4.5m Dark Blue if you can get it in white. Fol;d it over leach and sew. I would not trust glue alone. However a bit expensive to do all of leach. Good for repairs though. ol'will

It's not going to be carbon nano-fibre reinforced aramid sailcloth on those old tubs you sail, is it Nigel? :ROFLMAO:

How do you expect anyone to offer any suggestions on what solvent to use if the sailcloth material is not the usual polyester based and you don't seem to be forthcoming in what it is? Strange behaviour.

I know you like to have a dig .... but there's no need for such reply.

Of course I assume the sail is Dacron - a form of Polyester .... I just thought your assumption was presumptious. Now if you had written something like : If sail is Dacron - then Acetone should not be problem........

Anyway - GooGone is on its way ....

Flutter is in fact a result of the air flowing of the leech and despite many who play with leech lines to stop it - it is a sign of the sail working well .....

I have two spools of HD sail tape coming from Riga ... should be here next day or so .... and a large reel coming from somewhere else (can't remember where) as back up .....
The tape will have catch stitches made to prevent lifting ....

As far as I'm aware (someone will come up with an exception) all headsails us mere mortals use are polyester based. Even the high modulus sail cloths with carbon fibre or aramid reinforcing are still based on a polyester cloth or film. It was a pretty safe assumption to make.

Sail Tape, (Heavy Duty) has arrived ..... so now just wait for GooGone so I can clean up before applying tape.

Not much point applying tape and then ruining its adhesion when cleaning the goop !!

Goo Gone arrived ... tried it .... it removed a small part but was not getting to the old hardened glue that was also holding the stitching that would not come out.

I gave it a good shot ... in fact to the point my back - still not fully recovered from have lower vertebrate snapped and then glued back together - was hurting ...
I had to stop. Returned for another go next day .. same ...

FInally about 30mins ago - I paid for a Used sail from Sailexchange UK .... which should fit. The old genny can be rolled up and kept as spare ...

The repair tape I received is good quality and has repaired the sail better than expected.
