Looks amazing.

One question:

What happens to the masts and booms when the helipad is in use? Landing as indicated in this drawing in any sort of a sea would require the pilot to be rather bold, surely...

Doubt a chopper would be used in ay sort of sea. Plenty of room otherwise. Very nautical with 8 floors.

I think the pad is on top of the deck saloon (ie between masts 2 and 3). It's a big yacht though - about 450ft long, so those masts are going to be well over 100ft apart; even something moderately flash like an EC155 only has a rotor disc of about 40ft so more space that you'd think. I wouldn't fancy sneaking in under the boom for a landing though... :D

With the boom in place, there's clearly no room. Without it there's about 30m between the foremast and the mainmast. I've flown (as supercargo) that close to trees with military grade pilots but the trees did tend to stay still, apart from a bit of swaying about and they certainly weren't moving along. I guess helicopter movements will be limited to 'at anchor'?

as yet I still have not seen its sails and having had a quick google a few days back I could not find any photos with its sails up. IMO it looks horrendous, but I do want to see it with those 3 enormous sails set, its goings to look somewhat impressive (in a horrendous way)..

IMHO, if the designer and owner think this looks fantastic, then I think they should both go to SpecSavers pretty damned quick, 'cos it looks hideous!!!

I like the "a small room is located in the top of the tallest mast" - an idea I may try retrospectively incorporating into the mast of my 27 footer.

I've landed on a small ship in a helicopter in the Falklands it neither had a mast or excessive movement.

Agree about the design, hideous but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Yup. It looks like c40m mast spacing. On plenty of m/yachts the chopper lands with only a few m between the rotor blade and some bit of superstructure. Alloy's Tiara (which I've been on; rather nice) could land a helicopter abaft of her mast with the boom pulled out sideways, and at 50m loa she couldn't have had more than say 30m twixt mast and transom, though of course there was nothing to hit at the transom ie the chopper pilot only has one mast to miss.

As for sails, there are internet pictures of s/y A with a sail up. Haven't seen one with 3 sails yet.

We had motor yacht A astern of us when we were berthed in Dubai a few weeks ago. Didn't notice her until we were leaving.

Very distinctive.

Henry :)

So apparently they have a touch-sensitive glass control screen.

We're also told that the crew will be able to drop the anchor through it :D

Pete

You might imagine the boom would be hyd operated and have a lockout mechanism, for such activities.

A few years back two yachts ware anchored outside Rhodos ( Mandraki ) harbour.

Motor yacht A was waiting for guests and could not get into the harbour, our old wooden yacht anchored nearby because I did not want to go into Mandraki. ( Note the difference )

While sitting in the cockpit enjoying the view of Rhodes old town, I was reflecting on the beauty of liveaboard sailing. I am convinced I enjoyed those moments much more than the crew of “ A “
Even more than the guests. Moments after arriving on board the yacht left. Why ?? Are their more beautiful places I don't know of ?

I like motor yacht A. The sailor...... neii.

We ware close neighbours for almost two weeks, nevertheless I did not receive an invitation for drinks.
Must have been my shorts.

Looks amazing.

I was, indeed, amazed when I saw pictures of it.

I wouldn't say it looked amazing though.;)

Design obviously derivative of the mighty Tamar 24!

re helicopter landing - I would have thought that at the press of a, er, glass touch screen the masts would fold down a la Thunderbirds/Wallace and Grommit.:)
