After a summer in Holland where our kids found new friends to play with at every stop we made, sailing on the east coast this weekend has been somewhat disappointing in this respect. I have promised them I will try to find some kids on boats for them to meet up with on this side of the North Sea. I thought it might be nice to have a list of those sailing/motoring with kids, along with ages and home port so we can try to meet up. So, please add your names to the list, feel free to also add your boat name if you occasionally have grandkids on board.

I certainly have got the impression that there are fewer children sailing in small boats around the usual places where we used to hang out in the 1970s with our two. In Holland and the Baltic things are much as they always were but I have heard locals expressing concern about the lack of a new generation coming into sailing. When we had holidays in August, we could always rely on other children around at places like Stone Point or the Rocks and we made several sailing friends that way. I believe that one reason for the change has been the incursion of powerboats into areas that used to be much more peaceful. I'm afraid that my grandchildren have already outgrown yours and only occasionally come with us at the moment.

Boat name Verlition. Based at Marconi sailing club on the Blackwater.

Have six year old twins (boy/girl)

Have been doing local trips this season, have only been taking one at a time for safety/sanity reasons as usually singlehand.

Regards

Lee

Hi Lee, we often come round to the Blackwater so will give you a shout next time. Can understand one kid at a time if single handing.... I contemplated it with my two and the main thing stopping me was if they started fighting down below while we were under way. On the plus side, our 6 year old is starting to be useful now.

Burnham Carnival on Saturday.... Fairground first for us then watching the ridiculously long lit procession. (Have to stay to the end as they always save the best for last!) Anybody going?
