The advantage of these fora is that you have a good chance of recognising whether the person giving the information actually knows what he is talking about.
Maybe there is something wrong with the Irish educational system.
Ireland is part of the British Isles. Note the plural.
Ireland is not part of Great Britain which is just the largest of the British Isles hence the great. The great is nothing to do with an inflated sense of importance. (Although that probably exists)
The United Kingdom is the political entity that includes Northern Ireland (for the time being at least, but IMHO/FWIW should be part of Eire)

May I point out that Ireland is NOT British, it is Irish, and so cannot be part of the British Isles, which are limited to the mainland UK, isles of Wight, Man, Skye, etc. but not the island of Ireland, which in its Irish Republic part, is definitely not British -- please be so decent as to get it straight and stop calling the islands British, they are not.
Full stop.
That most atlases, the BBC, the press from across the water, etc continue to use an outmoded denomination for the islands as a group is no excuse for presumably educated persons to persist in what is for some the equivalent of calling a Frenchman a Pomme to his face.
The phrase is offensive to most people in Ireland, who are too polite to make an issue of it when used in their presence, but its use rankles. Do try to be aware of that.
Plomong - I'm seriously discomforted with your politically-twisted slant on this. It is way past time dinosaurs like you moved on, or wound your neck in......
No-one today claims that the Irish Republic should still be part of the British thingy. We are, however, all part of the EU, for better or worse, and equal in rights and responsibilities. Most of us are using that to put old poisons behind us - for the sake of the children. Join in, or stand aside.
Your nonsense only echoes of a mutually murderous past.
As someone who knows the words to all the Irish freedom songs better than you, kindly remember "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."
As for the Sailing Wiki, that's a d**n good idea. The user community will sort out any rough edges and anomalies, in time. That's as it should be.
Good idea. Wiki's are good places for general info.
I think we also ought to have a boats category where people can put info in about various boats - Eg. Motor Boats -> Princess -> Princess 37 which could then be filled in with individual info about Prinncess 37's. Individual owners could create pages off this to their own boats if they want.
You could also add in individual equipment Eg. Generators -> Kiphor and etc.
