I've been binge watching this for a while and I must say that those two are brilliant. Both are not scared to get their hands dirty so well done. It's actually made me jealous, they are doing what I want to do, so well done.

For anyone who hasn't seen what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAye0mf2A8g

That video is number one, they are up to video 180 now.... (I would be really chuffed to talk to them if they are members here)

They are an awesome couple and for two graduates with degrees to decide to tour the world in a sailing boat and at the same time document it.... You have my vote.

There's a sailing Uma website too apparently but im just going through the vids on Youtube atm.

I really hope they are members here.. Im sure someone here will know something about them and if not then just search sailing uma and youtube will sort it.

I dont know which number of their videos this is but the first one i watched of theirs was Dan anchoring before a hurricane, setting the anchor and just being below, his anchor never moved. . It was a brilliant video. Thats what made me watch more.

It just reminds me that we are all on a learning curve and we shouldn't forget that.. I really like these two.

All their stuffs good.

Kind regards

Used to be an avid watcher....Dan's fixing-up videos are still great, but the other ones not so much, I've found ones I consider better in terms of cruising/sailing (RAN for instance).

The worst thing that happened to the channel was the beginning of the "is it an ad, is it not an ad" type content, with the link up with Just Catamarans, and then getting a nicer camera as the videos are now overloaded with slo-mo's and transitions.

I still keep an eye out for the DIY focussed ones though.

Yep watched them all. Great couple. Should be at the Southampton boat show with uma this year. I too prefer the older more organic videos fixing up there pearson

I used to watch them also, got too commercial for my liking.
Came across a lovely UK based couple just starting off that are really enjoyable to watch.

Some lovely videos there.

Thanks, I just had a look. Here comes some more binge watching lol.

There's a part of sailing Uma that got my attention. Possibly I should make this into another thread but they scrapped the diesel for an electric forklift engine.. I never thought of such sorcery, has anyone entertained such an idea here?

I will admit it has me considering it because I am considering upgrading my single cylinder air cooled diesel for something else, maybe the cost of the panels and battery bank would be unfeasable. Hmmmm, as always I'm open to discussion.

Right now I'm out with the mastic gun, in my wisdom I took off the grab rails on the cabin roof to revarnish and bolted them back on (siliconed the bottoms)... Heavy rain yesterday and all the bolts leak now. Typical... So todays job is unscrew one by one and rescrew with mastic in the hole. The rails look nice though lol.

I too used to be an avid watcher, particularly because of the electric engine and their willingness to do things differently.

They used to tag themselves "100% electric", but their delight at getting a new petrol outboard, so they could go roaring round Bahamian anchorages like any other American boat vloggers, left me disillusioned. A patron had just previously donated a Torqueedo outboard which I think they used once - if I were that patron, I'd have been asking for it back!

RAN and Sailing Florence are on my weekly watch list.

May I suggest : Sailing Millennial Falcon https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-e4fYEUg2tVQ0NGL9oD1RQ

Very good

Don't use silicone on a boat...find a suitable proper marine sealant (Sika etc.....) or use Butyl tape which seems to be a favoured method nowadays.

Silicone leaves behind a residue on the GRP which basically will stop anything bonding to it again, unless you really carefully clean it away with a proper solvent.

You're absolutely right. It's all I had at the time and why it was leaking. I had to screw them on myself cos there was no one here at the time so imagine me trying to screw down from the inside rails that I couldn't hold down from the outside, if you'd seen me going out and in it would make a good Laurel and Hardy movie lol. You would have got out the popcorn and laughed because it was raining heavily and i had 20 holes in the cabin roof. I stuck the rails down with silicone, which hadn't dried cos It was just done but helped keep them in position, tried to line up the screw holes then went inside and as gently as possible tried to get the bolts to bite.

Hopefully problem solved now. 20 stainless 8mm screw bolts, new stainless washers and a tube of sikaflex later now I'm looking forward to the next downpour to check the work.

If they're still leaking on me water torturing I'll just say, the grab rails still look nice lol.
