Do you buy posh proper high tech sailing trousers, pink Captain Curry's, whatever you turn up at the marina in or get something from the charity shop?

Craghoppers usually. Comfortable and quick-drying.

Bog-standard polyester-cotton hiking trousers. Originally from high-street camping shops like Blacks, but these days I tend to buy them online.

Dry very quickly, don't constrict movement, look reasonable.

Don't skimp on the pants, you need to sit on wet decks and stay dry. Skimping on the jacket is another thing.

Had a nice pair of Cap'n Curry (but Blue). That was when my eldest worked in the chandlers. SWMBO shrunk them with the drier! Now its any old chinos or jeans..

No I don't

Well, ok, if it's raining then I might (though I'll often lurk on the dry bits under the sprayhood). But in that case I'll put on my oily trousers. I'm not going to wear waterproofs on a sunny day just in case.

Chino's or ' outdoor activities ' troos like Regatta; I found wet denim jeans are a form of torture, make mobility difficult and take ages to dry.

Have a pair of Musto 'Technical' - though how trousers can be technical is not too clear to me. But they are excellent have waterproof knees and bottom. If it gets cold I put on my Lidl thermal overalls and finally the Musto waterproofs.


We live near a Lidl and a Musto outlet. Though the chances of getting another pair of technical for the outlet price is unlikely.

Any old thing. Quick-drying hiking shorts whenever possible.

I was on a mooring at Gigha on a very hot day with stuff all wind this summer. I was intrigued to see a couple of big yachts arrive with their crews fully outfitted in waterproof jackets and trousers.

I always used to wear Rohan bags, brilliant.

But now I'm poor I wear Regatta, also good kit.

Shorts till it gets too cold.

Will wear jeans etc if just a little chilly but no water flying round. Then into Musto mid layer, warm and waterproof. Did have some walking trousers for the post- shorts - pre Musto stage but a little snug round the waist the last couple of years so as little chance of getting back to a 30 inch waist will probably buy a couple of pairs of those for the in between stage. I find though that the cold stage seems to last for about 6m and the shorts stage for about 5 with the remaining month spent furiously anti fouling and putting off the rest of the list for another year!

The Boss wears Rohan, they are indestructible (genuinely +30 years old..). I favor pj's - great on a longish passage - just don't bother getting dressed until arriving at destination

I found in the most excellent Yarmouth Supplies in the Barbican at Plymouth two pairs of their own brand quick drying trousers. A tenner a pair IIRC, AND WORTH MUCH MORE. Not a perfect fit-well they would'nt be on me would they-but more than acceptable and as good as more expensive ones.

Went back this year for more, but all sold out and no more coming in.

Pity.

Same for me now. I used to wear Rohans but found Craghoppers to be better / more versatile imho.

Another vote for the Musto Evolution Technical Trousers: spray splashes dry quickly, reinforced patches on knees and bum, very useful large pockets. In the summer I wear the shorts version of the same thing.
