Sailing tips for the Solent please!

I've just noticed..

I've just seen that you are based in Surrey?

It would probably take you as long to get to Itchenor as parts of the East Coast.. Whitstable, The Swale, the Medway, Chatham etc..

We are near gatwick and can be in Whitstable in a hour.. (Fantastic place, useless for big boats, ideal for drascombes :))

If you want a creek by creek tour - take a look at Dylan's site - www.keepturningleft.co.uk

Ever read the section on the barrier in the Channel Pilot? Mine's on the boat so I won't try to quote, but it's something about locals' superstition and being dragged to your doom by the ghosts of frustrated U-boats :-)

The barrier has nothing to do with submarines, the water it is in isn't deep enough for one to even submerge. It is a sub-marine (ie underwater) barrier and was put there to prevent fast torpedo boats coming along close inshore to attack ships leaving the harbour.

Go blame Mr Cunliffe then.
