Yes, some good stuff here. But different boats, different methods. My yacht heaves-to in a gale best under storm jib alone, set on babystay, not on triple-reefed main alone. Also, running off towing warps works well for me, even when heaving-to has felt it might might be risky. So its worth testing what your yacht likes best.

Using a third reef in the main rather than a trisail is the way to go. I never again used my trisail after fitting a third reef.
