sailing from the solent to falmouth

Try to avoid Torquay MDL at all costs -Brixham and Dartmouth are close by and far more welcoming to visitors plus the towns are a delight in comparison to Torquay itself. They are both far more dog friendly in terms of walks etc.

The pontoon at Lyme is summer only and can be rolly, as can the buoys. West bay is also a possibility as there is a good pontoon just inside the entrance> There was a Bavaria 37 on it when I was there last (on land!) However as post#11 shows it is a long deviation and the second leg is likely to be into the prevailing wind, so straight across is the way to go. Without the pontoon constraint I would overnight in lulworth if weather allows as you can time the inner passage easily from there and it avoids the longer run down to the bill from Weymouth or Portland.

As you will be starting from Gosport first stop Poole is a good first leg, then Portland to Brixham or Dartmouth

Brixham may be your cheapest option after crossing the bay Dartmouth was expensive as was Salcombe and with Salcombe you have the bar to contend with which may or may not be a problem for you and can be weather affected.

??

Lulworth is usually attractive, but it is at least 3.5-4 miles further than t'other named stops.... unless you're using a chart projection I haven't discovered?

Unless it has changed, you can overnight on the Town pier in Dartmouth on the outside, clearing before the ferries start, for not very much, though this is obviously not suitable for a long stay. If a train is needed, Weymouth might be the easiest.

I did the exact journey and what you propose years ago arrived at about 10.00pm and left at about 6.00AM only to be chased by the harbour launch for the overnight fee. I can't remember how much it was.
