I live in the northern part of Norway and want to buy a sailboat 30+ foot around Oslo. I have heard that the seas between Oslo and Narvik Norway are very rough would there be a problem sailing from Oslo to Narvik? Can any one give me some advice on a trip of this nature.

Sailing a 30+ sailboat from Oslo to Narvik in the summer season is no problem (depending on the boat..).
There are stretches along this route that can give rough conditions with wrong weather, but with proper planning and use of the weather forecast's it's doable.

You need good pilotage and navigation skills.

Do you read / speak Norwegian?
The book "Den Norske Los Bind 1" (Norwegian pilot volume 1) is a good source for general information on the whole Norwegian coats, I don't have the book at hand now (on the boat 140nm away :) but as far as I can remember the dangerous stretches are described in detail in volume 1.

This book store have a good selection of pilot books and harbor guides http://www.nautiskfritid.no/Nettbutikk/Boeker/Ut-paa-tur/Havneboeker-pilotboeker

A good source for weather forecast is here http://www.yr.no/hav_og_kyst/

You can also get free GRIB files here http://om.yr.no/verdata/grib/

Why not keep it in or near Oslo? South of Oslo in the Skagerrak is some of the best sailing in the world in my opinion and the weather in the summer is usually very good.

Otherwise, for a trip from there to narvik is straight forward enough. Not much of it is really offshore and personally I'd take a whole summer over doing it day by day. Too many great places that its just not worth missing out on.
