"Sailing Directions, Tidal Streams & Anchorages of The Isle of Man"
I purchased this book a few months ago, thanks to a reply from a member here, in response to my request for recomendations for a suitable pilot book for the Isle of Man.
I own a 25 ton, 47', ex RNLI Watson Class Motor Lifeboat & cruise single-handed. I am & have to be extremely safety conscious & would not steam into unknown waters without a comprehensive briefing.
"Sailing Directions, Tidal Streams & Anchorages of The Isle of Man" provided that for the Isle of Man. I found it to be a good book, comprehensive and very much an operational pilot book, rather than a coffee-table exhibit.
I had one minor quibble with the general instructions on approach from Northern Ireland, but all other approach instructions are much clearer.
Personally I found it very 'good value'. It's cost is relatively high in relation to say the 'Irish Sailing Directions' volumes, but I imagine this is largely due to low-volume production of the book. Physically it is very good - spiral binding allows the book to lay flat when open. Good quality pages - 'card' quality rather than 'paper'.
I will be relaying feedback to the 'Manx Sailing & Cruising Club' & making some suggestions to them for their consideration in any future updates.
