Sailing by Starlight. How a carrier strike group operates.

I did enjoy reading it. I didn’t say they were lying, I said that it seemed pointless using a human (who would be easy to spot on deck at night) to measure an angle and then use a computer for literally everything else. The military often leave out details for security reasons, especially when talking about tech. I’d assumed you were familiar with security clearance type stuff.
I thought it an interesting conversation but obviously you want the thread to go a different way, in which case perhaps you could guide us on what you consider a proper way forwards?

Not at all. Follow your nose.

As I understand it, quantum nav is just extremely small, accurate, expensive gyroscopes but without the gyroscopes. The technique isn’t new but it’s hellishly difficult to implement, especially on a boat. Probably the modern equivalent of the chronometer, which itself was a huge lengthy saga

It's the 25 circling Cessna's towing 100' banners saying MAGA and 'Go Steelers Go' that will give their position away.

Interesting article but is the source one you know? WIONEWS is not one I recognise. A quick search says it is World Is One News, and is an English language Indian news source. Fact checking information is becoming a regular thing as not everything on the internet is true. However I did find another source that explains lots about the US Navy getting their ships to run quieter and there are further links to other information and another about navigating without GPS.

In 1980s Hong Kong I did a goodwill civilian visitor tour of a massive US carrier, too big to come in to the main part of the harbour. We got whisked out on a nice launch/tender/pinnace thing, and disembarked on to a pontoon alongside the ship. Then up in a big lift ( elevator) on to the flight deck oh man it was impressive. Then, deep joy, we got driven around the deck in a jeep! Those ships….
