Sailing Boots : \'Cap Horn\'

Sailing boots (bog-standard types not the top-price ones) usually lasted me about 3K to 4K miles cruising before cracking and leaking: then they were scrapped because I could never get the material to accept duck-tape or dinghy-repair adhesive (or any other kind) for more than a week.
My last pair of that type let me down on a North sea passage in 2004 and at Skagen the choice at the chandlers was between super-expensive and what the local fishermen used; 'Cap Horn', costing about the same as my usual UK ones.
They have out-pereformed any other boot I've ever had: warmer, and never any significant condensation: no more cold damp feet!
After 7K miles one small crack has appeared and let water, but they are more 'rubbery' than previous boots and the dinghy-repair kit seems to have been successful, so I might get another few K out of them.
My local chandler has never heard of 'Cap Horn' boots. Has anyone? And where in UK can they be found?
I dread having to revert to rubberised-carboard boots. Do I have to go back to Denmark?

Re: Sailing Boots : \'Cap Horn\'

Cap Horn is a clothing brand name for "Stockman", a Finnish department store which would sit somewhere between M&S and Harrods in terms of market positioning.

These clothes would probably be classified as "leisure clothing with a nautical theme" in the UK but they are designed to survive the everyday local climate here, so "stylish performance leisure clothing" would be nearer the mark.

I have quite a few examples and they all "do what it says on the tin". And because it's stylish and styles change so often, there are good bargains to be had at the end of every season if you don't mind being seen in last seasons stuff :-)

Re: Sailing Boots : \'Cap Horn\'

I bought an expensive pair of soft rubber boots (Gill) and, at the same time, a paior of cheapos (Aigle) from Decathlon. Any guesses which ones are the ones that have lasted the longest?
But I have found a way of repairing those hailine cracks that have appeared in the expensive Gills: a little Superglue - like the one used to stick together rubber on "O" rings: at least the boots might last another season. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Sold by Plastimo

Plastimo 'Cape Horn' boots are definitely not the 'Cap Horn' I am looking for. I have been through more than a few pairs of those. I have found them poor value, like a lot of other Plastimo stuff I have been daft enough to try.
Having said that, I do have a high regard for some of their offerings, such as compasses.

Re: Sailing Boots : \'Cap Horn\'

Have just tried the Stockmann website (English version) but found no 'Cap Horn'.
Unfortunately the search facility is not available in English. Thanks for the input all the same.

''My local chandler has never heard of 'Cap Horn' boots. Has anyone? And where in UK can they be found?''
OOPS: It seems I started this thread with mis-information. Sorry!
I've just retrieved my (Danish?) boots from storage and found they are marked 'KAP HORN'
They do have razor-cut soles, but in no other respect resemble any Plastimo boots I've had. The doublers over the foot, round the heel and over the front of the ankle are quite different. And when did Plastimo NOT put their name on a product?
Doublers up the back seam are coloured red and green. That almost put me off buying them, but I've actually found useful when all I can see of them is two hollow legs coming out of crumpled oilskin trousers left ready to step into on the sole!

Re: Sailing Boots : \'Kap-Horn\'

Thanks, Steve; You found it.
It is the right company, based in Roskilde, and I should be able to speak to them. Great!
