Sailing boat maintenance checklist

I tried to make one and gave up as the important bits I kept leaving off. Even if it is so called complete there will always be items missed.

During the season I find a "mental" todo list is the best with sailing at the top. If anything else goes on top it gets fixed very quickly, normally!

One thing I do as a matter of preventative maintenance is to dismantle all my rigging screws grease them and return to original setting. If ignored the SS into bronze corrodes and will not release.
Check the pulleys and sheaves in the mast and of course all stay attachments. Just about everything else seems to scream for attention so I don't need a list. olewill

I admit to having a regular list of all the usual suspects - already covered by other posts. But my suggestion is perhaps the more obvious one, and a practice I follow myself - walk the boat and be curious about every aspect: lift the floorboards, check out the gear, wash the halyards and sheets. Wash everything you can to remove all salt - an absolute killer over time!

Just by handling these things thoroughly you get to note the wear and tear, spot the early failures, and build a replacement list for the next boatshow ! Some of the budget has to go on replacements - it can't all go on new gizmos....

My list is on the PC and items eliminated as they are dealt with - rather longer this year as next winter I plan to leave the boat in. I've also made a diary for maintenance when she is in the water.
