Is there anything I should know? Passports? Paperwork? Customs? Duty free allowances? Goods only? Or is the virtual Irish Sea border all a lefty remoaner fib?

Genuine question, I have no idea what impact this all has, if any, on the casual amateur yottie.

Friend is considering buying a place there which incidentally has a mooring so wondered if anything had changed Since Jan 1.

If this has already been answered somewhere I’d be grateful for simple pointers to threads etc.

Depends on your objective. I would think any of the national news outlets would pay handsomely for your story if you have trouble as a UK national travelling from the UK to the UK right now. Probably won't be the case by summer, but right now that would be a great story to get the country worked up.

If you want a quiet life then take your passport and docs etc. :)

They're working right now on revising the nomenclature to clarify matters.

The 'Disunited Kingdom' (DK) was an early contender, but was thought too easily confused with Denmark (also DK). The smart money was on 'Slightly United Kingdom' (SUK), but the latest word is that Boris prefers the more positive sounding 'Flexibly United Kingdom'.

Hi Roger,

She is on a club mooring rather than in a marina - I wonder how I prove that, since she’s 100miles away and I’m in Tier 4 and can’t travel down there??

:)
How did you previously prove it wasn't imported from the States? Or is it the case that nobody ever asked?

AFAIK there is in place a Common Travel Area between Ireland and the UK. Been going since 1922?

The CTA was never altered by our membership of the EU.

It would be wise to check it is still in place and having passport/paperwork for boat would be a prudent thing.

If you have a dog, it will need a Rabies jab and a health certificate, just as if you were going to the EU. You will also have to go through a designated port of entry. Big, big change for pet owners since before 31 December when you could just turn up anywhere and you and your dog would be welcome with no questions asked.

We have all the clearance papers from when we brought her into the UK, eligible under personal goods after we’d been living overseas for 4 years - cleared for entry by HMRC with the help of Peters & May who handled the shipping and paperwork. There was no VAT to pay so there is no ‘VAT paid’ paper, just the clearance to import. We haven’t been into Europe with her so haven’t tested what the reaction to this would be in other EU countries, but that’s a bit moot at this point.

Sailing to the Republic (like work and residency) is AFAIK unaffected because of the separate treaties (much like UK and Portugal). It’s the newly-ambiguous state of NI that piques my interest

No dog, so of academic interest only (unless teenagers count?)
