Is it possible to change oil from Saildrive dipstick with Vacuum manual pump such we use for motor oil removal or I have to do this on usual way when the boat is out of water ?

[/ QUOTE ] I think it is and if it is it is mentioned in the owners manual. The only snag is that it may not remove quite all of it. (That'll mean I guess that any water that has got in there will be left behind )

I may be confusing it with one of the other drives. I was reading several manuals a few days ago.

Check the manual.

Been there and tried it with my 120 a few years ago... and err... it don't work.

if you open the oil filler cap you can't get a pipe in cos all you can see is bearings. you can get a very small dia pipe down the dip stick... but i mean a very small dia but you can't suck cos you don't have a breather as such.. and the id of the pipe is only 3mm at max /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

so it's dump it out of the bottom I'm afraid. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif be doing mine next weekend

[/ QUOTE ] Yes the manual says drain via the drain plug. It must be the 130 drives that can be (partially) emptied via the dip stick hole.

Reference to the manual is to be advised. They can always be downloaded from The Volvo Penta engine database if necessary

On mine (120SB) you cannot reach the bottom of the the drive from the gearbox as the openings in the divider plate (at the main gaiter level) are not directly in line with the main vertical oil channel. The plate can only be installed one way so I guess this design aspect is intended to ensure a particular oil flow route. All of the oil can only be removed using the bottom plug.

Yes I guessed there was some reason that a pump suction could not go all the way down through the 120S drives.

I have checked with one of the manuals and can confirm that it is an alternative method of carrying out an oil change in the 130 S drives, while the boat is still in the water. The snag is that it leaves 0.5 litres of the old oil behind (total cap 3.0 litres). Nevertheless its a great improvement on not being able to change the oil at all, as with the 120S

I knew I had seen it somewhere!

Well.
I've just got 2.5ltrs out of a 120se through the dip stick hole. It took a lot of fiddling, but I've got contaminated oil and nowhere near a suitable haul out.

Ta. Useful to know' but a little too late to help the OP
That only leaves about 100cc but it will unfortunately include any water that's in there.

if water is getting in you will have to lift out to replace the seals!

Yes agreed. A little late to the party.
However, I think it's worth knowing it is possible to extract most of the oil on a 120SE and for me the oil had emulsified, so yes there's some liquid still there but it isn't all water.
I think the problem was caused by a boat yard over filling the oil. The seals had been replaced and I clocked the level of oil was too high but didn't understand the implications.
