No, I've sorted out which oil I should be using, belatedly. What happened was I misidentified the type of Saildrive I've got fitted; thought it was a 120S C, turns out it is in fact a 120S E, which uses 75W90 GL5 transmission oil. Now, what I've got is a Saildrive from which I've removed all but about .5L engine oil; if I now refill it with the correct stuff will that do more harm than good or should I simply refill with engine oil until I can haul out later in the year? Haul out now is not an option. The Saildrive has done about 70 hours since being filled with the wrong stuff.

Advice please!

Edit: should have said it's a Volvo Penta saildrive.....

I did extactly what you did on my Yanmar SD20 and the oil went into an emulsion like egg yolk. I dried her out between tides and drained the oil and replaced it (twice) and then again over the following winter - no problems since then
