Saildrive oil change

It won't be copper as that will react with the aluminium leg. Mine has a fibre washer although when I bought the 'part' it also came with a rubber 'O' ring. I think it depends on the model number but I'm happy to be corrected. (I'm married so I'm used to being corrected).

Interesting, mine had a rubber washer on it, but the oil change kit i got came with a fibre one..

It has two other rubber washer, one for the dip stick and one for the oil filler cap. Mine is an S120c.

Order the right Oil change seal kit for your saildrive leg.. The 120 series appears to have a slightly different o-ring to the 110 series for example.

Has anyone tried to order a spare Oil drain plug for the MS25S Saildrive. Had two differnt types sent by Keypart each one the wrong thread size. Gave up in the end. Hope I never need one in anger

The correct one is bigger than the thread size. It fits into a half recess within hole.

Can anyone tell me if a VP sail drive oil drain plug has a copper washer or a rubber 'O' ring ?
Thanks
S130 is a rubber o-ring. It is unlikely to be copper on any other model because VP saildrives are made of aluminium and VP would not have mixed copper with it!

Yes will do - should have worded that better, i was meaning taking the fibre one off and trying to get a rubber one.

I don't understand this keypart kit now, unless that rubber one is for the drain plug and the fibre one goes somewhere else. I'll have to have another look later.

I would expect to see a difference in the design of the plugs depending upon whether they are intended to have a flat washer or an O ring fitted

The underside of the head will be flat if it is intended to use a washer.

I'd expect a recess somewhere if an O ring is intended so that you cannot squash the O ring into oblivion.

It is strange.. VicS - I would have expected the same i.e. an indented channel to take the o-ring around either the hole in the leg or in the underside of the nut.

My 120s however had a square section hole.. and the bolt I seem to remember was flat on the underside of the head... but once screwed most of the way in, it did encapsulate the o-ring...

PS - Square section - I'm talking about viewed from across the section - not looking into the hole

My 120 leg has a half moon recess in the leg recess to receive the O ring, the bolt head is flat. Look again at yours.
