Hi chaps,

Who's good at sail washing these days? I'm sure my local sailmaker just sends them to a place that pressure washes them, it seems to damage the dacron and not remove much dirt.
I saw a place advertised a few years back that washed the sails flat in a machine with sympathetic cleaning products but they seem to have vanished.

Any ideas?

He means the PBO one....

Can't say I found a thread on it but I did find a place that sounds like it might do a better job than my local chap.

Sent my main to Kemps this year collected, checked, then washed will be delivered back at the start of next season for under £100

I have seen some big washing machines recently turn up at the local petrol station and at the Morriston supermarket at Bishopbriggs.

I have been wondering if folded right, I might be able to wash the head sail and then see if the main will fit afterwards.

Not sure which detergent would be best.

Www.kiswash.co.uk These look like the machines. 18kg capacity.

I don't know what the custom is in Cornwall but in the Solent all the chandleries seem to use the same wholesale washer based in somewhere inland who doesn't deal direct but somewhere like petersfield. I don't therefore think much actual completion exists. There once was a co. With flat rollers in early 2000s but they went bust I think ? Would be interested to hear what completion exists though?

Recently took ours to a place in Axminster Devon- Hancock Marine Services – Just another WordPress site superb service. Answered my email enquiry overnight. We delivered them the next day and they were ready in 48 hours! Returned beautifully folded and clean- £150 for jib and staysail.... Highly recommend them.

The sail laundry in Portsmouth used by most of the local chandlers and sail makers is Tip Top. The place that was in Southampton with the high tech baths and rollers was Novosail. I believe they went bust after various reports of sails being damaged by their process. However, I had sails cleaned by them twice with no problems.
